HCG levels......is this good?

by catgrl1972, Sep 28, 2006 12:00AM
Hi again...hope you are all not getting sick of me!  LOL
well, I called my PCP and she ordered an HCG level since I have been worrying. Here are the levels...

on 9/21   5329.0

9/26   30,136.0...has u/s before this level was drawn, yolk sac was seen but no fetal pole. md ? if it is either too early or maybe possibly i will m/c

   today 9/28  37372.0

I thought that the levels were supposed to double every 48 hrs? does this mean things are destine to fail or is there still hope? I go back for a second u/s tomorrow. I feel like an emotional wreck right about now. looking forward to any thoughts.

Thanks, Charlotte  :)

Check out this web page:  http://www.conceivingconcepts.com/learning/articles/hcg.html

According to this article, for hcg levels > 6000, the expected doubling time is 96 hrs (4 days).  So I'm not sure that yours would mean anything , although I suppose at 48 hours it should technically increase by 50%.  But the u/s will tell you more.  How far along are you?  I've heard many miracle stories on here about hcg levels not doing what they're "supposed" to do, so as hard as it is, hang in there.

Actually, once the numbers get that high they are not expected to double in even 96 hours, they are expected to double in "more than 96 hours."  And after a point, they level off.  My fertility clinic stops measuring at a certain point because once they reach a high level, beta hCG measures don't tell you anything except that you are pregnant.  So don't let it slay you, watch the ultrasounds and good luck!!!!!

Until about 5-6,000 they double every 2-3 days )48-72 hours), and after that they slow down a fair bit.  It is good they still are going up, that is the right direction.  As to the actual numbers, it totally depends upon where you began measuring and how far along you are.  In my 1st u/s at 5 weeks, I saw a gest sac and pole, at the 2nd u/s 4 days later the gest sac and the yold, and then finally at close to 7 weeks finally saw the embryo and heartbeat.  Given it a week and then go back.  I was totally freaked out until I saw it and it was hard to wait a full week, but totally worth it to wait.

I just had my HCG Levels Checked on Sunday and it was 18,000 and again on Thursday and it was 34,000 it seems to be only doubling every 100 hours.  Also on Thursday I had an ultrasound and found that I was exactly 6 weeks pregnant but the heartrate was only 70.  The tech said maybe she missed a few because it was sooo tiny but not enough for her to be happy.  They are repeating another HCG test on Saturday to make sure my HCG is still going up.  They make it seem so hopeless but I have no cramping or spotting. Anyone go through this?

Hello. This is my second pregnancy. My first had a little spotting, but other than that, it was a normal helthy pregnancy. I am pregnant again and the doc was a little concerned because my HCG levels were pretty high. (71,000) They did an ultrasound on 9/27, and only saw a sac. They did another one the very next day because of the HCG levels, and were able to see a yolk sac and POSSIBLE fetal pole, but werent certain. They ruled out a ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy. I am 6 weeks right now, and am not certain if it is very possible to see the embryo right now, and if it is a good sign that they saw a yolk sac. They are doing another u/s next friday, and i am really scared because i have never had a miscarriage before

I just went through the same thing esaxtly as far as what the u/s saw.  I  am so glad I took it easy and waited the extra week and then finally saw the u/s with the heartbeat after 2 with just the sac/yolk/etc.  Just relax and take it easy and wait it out, it is the best thing you can do for yourself.  Women have a hugley wide range of HCG levels and mine were doubling every 24 hours (up to about 6,000 when they are supposed to slow down a little bit and then double ever 96 hours or so).  Mine started sooooooo low, but now I have seen the h/b 2 times.  I have seen 2 different doctors each of whom has given me slightly different dates for how old the DB is (6.5 to over 7 weeks),a nd I am trying to just be happy about it so I send good vibes to the baby.  Good luck next friday & don't do anything too strenuous.

I too am on a rollercoaster watching my HCG levels...

April 12, 2006 I had an ectopic and left tube removed.

The beginning of my last period was August 10, 2006.
9/7/06 1st day of missed period.
Positive pregnancy tests 9/13/06, 9/14/06, 9/15/06.

9/15/06 = 6,008  = 5 wks gestational per HCG blood test
9/22/06 = 26,894 = 6 wks
9/24/06 = 43,650 = 7 wks
9/25/06 ultrasound = could see sac but no baby or hrtbeat(5wk)
10/2/06 ultrasound = could not see sac or baby,no hrt??? (5wk6d)
10/3/06 = 77,201 = 8 wks

10/4/06 = 66,356 = 8 wks (laprocopy - neg for ectopic preg)
(they started me on antibiotic for UTI)
10/6/06 = 53,921 = 8 wks
10/8/06 = 64,872 = 8 wks

Dr says she can't find the baby now ?
Not in uterus, Not in tube, WHERE COULD IT BE ?
I do have The Cyst of Preg on Overy which is normal

Anyone had this happen this far along ?
