HEARTBURN

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE ROLAIDS WHILE PREGNANT FOR HEARTBURN?

I could be wrong but I was always told that rolaids are not ok but tums are. I would ask your OB to be sure.

My ob said no to tums & rolaids because they can make you constipated, she recommended pepcid ac. You should probably call your ob/nurse hotline to make sure though....

I was told Tums was ok but not Rolaids, not sure why though?

I was allowed liquid Mylanta or papaya tablets.

Tums contain calcium carbonate which is approved to take during pregnancy.

Rolaids contain calcium carbonate AND magnesium hydroxide.  Magnesium hydroxide is the "issue" - it has not been formally assigned a pregnancy category by the FDA yet which is why some doctors advise against taking it.

my dr said tums were ok and rolaids and malox were not. probably b/c of what was said above

fyi- bananas are great for heartburn!

hkenny- That's really interesting, I googled it and you are right but I have always gotten heartburn from bananas...weird.

GRose- me too!  Bananas always made my heartburn worse!  I was told to take Tums.  Didn't really help me much, though :(
