HELP lazy baby--how to get to feed/burp

my baby falls asleep most of the time when we feed her--we try hard to keep her awake (stroke her cheeks, strip her down to diaper, put damp cloth on head etc --she doesnt stay awake and forget about burping---she won't.  tried different positions and nothing works.  As a result, she ends up with hiccups or spits up in her sleep  what to do???

My daughter was the same way as a newborn. The only thing that worked was to strip her down to the diaper and put her down on the floor, sometimes on the cool tile. I know it sounds crule, but it honestly wakes them up. My daughter would cry for a good 5 minutes before I would pick her up, but she sure was awake then and nursed really well.

My daughter was the same way.  I use to strip her down to her diaper and rub her down with a damp wash cloth.  I had her in June so I didn't have to worry about her getting too cold. My pediatrician told me to let her cry a little bit longer.  It sounds so mean, especially when they're so little, but it does help to wake them up more and want to eat.

my sister had both her babies 34-35 weeks. they wouldnt stay awake for eating. she had to strip them, use a cool cloth, and lay them on the couch and bottle feed them. if she help them they went to sleep. didnt work out with bf of course, but you should see those roly polys now! super healthy and smart. they say preemies are smart and if you listened to her 3 yr old you would drop your jaw! good luck its hard during these few months'

I forgot to mention that you may have to pull her off mid-feed to get a burp out of her while she's still awake.

Remember how you said before that you were too quick to pick her up? You may still be having a bit of the same problem. Let her get into a full cry for a few minutes before you feed her. It is okay if she won't take the 2nd breast. It is also normal for some babies to get ful very fast, and nurse for only 5 minutes if your milk is very creamy or fast flowing.

let the child sleep.m i am asure that when you baby is hungry she will eat. my son would sleep all of the time and ifed him when he woke up. he is now 8 months and 22 lbs. dont worry and dont put your baby on the cold tiles and let her cry for 5 minutes that is just sick.
