Had amnio today and u/s showed cysts on brain

I had my amnio this morning and u/s tech first took all measurements and It seemed to be ok up until the dr came in to do the amnio and said there was one concern that he had... There were 3 cysts on the brain (choroid plexus cysts) that a small percent of babys are detected with. This can
disappear by the 22nd week. Im 17w 1d. If thy dont disappear my child will have down syndrome or trisomy 18 or 21. The amnio will give me the results I need within 2 wks. Im petrified.

Does anyone know anyone or had themself an u/s where they saw cysts and they went away? Thanks.

At my 18 week u/s, they found the same thing, one small cyst. My dr. told me it was nothing to worry about because all my blood work came back negative. I live in Canada and they don't do any more ultrasounds unless you are high risk and this is apparently not a big deal. My doctor told me not to think twice about it, that all these cysts disappear and that the only factor increasing the likelihood of my baby having trisomy 13 is my age (I'm under 30, hence no need to worry). I am still worried about it and bring it up at every visit but he shrugs it off as no big deal. I'm still worried though!

My 9 1/2 month old very dd had the same thing at 18 wks!! We were scared to death. My blood work came back fine so we didn't test my husband to see if he was a carrier. At 25 wks my ob/gyn did another u/s (my 4th, 3 w/her & one w/fetal/maternal specialist) and the cysts were gone! I wasn't completely relieved until she was born healthy. She did have 3 heart defects, all but one have healed on their own now. From my understanding all babies have cysts on their brains early on in the pregnancy due to the fluid. It's only alarming when they get bigger. My dd had 3 cysts, but only 2 measured bigger than they should be. I know it is very scary because it's your little baby, but please know that it is VERY common. I will bet in a few weeks the cysts will be gone. Good luck, try not to stress & I wish you the very best!

A distant relative of mine went through this a few months back and delivered a healthy baby girl with no problems or complications!  The cysts disappeared!  I hope you find this same fortune...

Good luck and best wishes!

When I was 19 yrs, they did an amnio to me because I was a "teen Pregnancy." My daughter had the same thing. Being young, naive and not knowing what that was, it freaked me out. I had to go days not knowing what was going on and to find out if she was going to have down syndrome. It eventually went away and she is now soon to be 13 yrs next week. It was really scary, but I hear it's very common. TRY not to worry. TRY is the magic key there. I was a nervous wreck but in the end, it all worked out. Do some research on it and you'll see that it's not that uncommon. Best of luck to you!! Let me know what happens. :)

You guys are all so wonderful. I am trying to be possitive but its so hard. Im 40yrs old, had a m/c 7 mos ago and now going through this. I have to say... this would be the hardest thing I would ever go through if it comes back downs. On the other hand... if it comes back fine, It will be the happiest day of my life!
