Have PCOS/ next step is IVF

HEllo everyone, I am new 2 site. I wanted to know if any one here has had success on the FIRST try of IVF. I only have ONE real shot due to finances/insurances, and want to know if there's hope for me. I have PCOS, higher thyroxine level than they would like, and a high LH level as well as a "possible" blockage on my left fallopian tube. My best option is going to be the IVF, which should be done in the next couple months if all goes well. Right now they put me on Metformin for the PCOS, and synthroid for my thyroid. Has anyone else had to do this prior to their IVF? If so, why? My doc tells me that it's to decrease chance of m/c if and when I do get pg....That I am being regulated. I am 27 going on 28 and so lost. If anyone has any advice, any hope, or any comments, PLEASE....
Thanks a bunch.
Lynn

Have you already tried clomid? My friend did progesterone to kick start her cycle, and then did Clomid days 5-9. She was also on metformin. She got pg right away. I know you feel the time ticking away, but if you haven't tried this yet, maybe you should give it 3-6 cycles before you spend the $$$$$.

I tried clomid and other fertility medicines and they didn't work.  I tried IVF and got pregnant with twins on the first try.  If you haven't tried clomid or other meds - I would try those first.  I have a friend who did clomid first and had twins.  Good luck!!!

Hi, I did IVF and failed on the first attempt but depending on the number of embryos created, you may have subsequent trials. For example, we had 8 viable embryos (18 eggs were retrieved) and 3 fresh ones were transferred. The remaining embryos were frozen. The 3 fresh embryos did not stick. So, we are going for the frozen embryo transfer (FET) next month. With frozen embryo transfer, you will not have to go through the entire egg retrieval process which is time consuming, costly and painful.

For me personally, I felt that it was impossible to stay relaxed after the first transfer. Firstly, I was in much pain after the whole egg retrieval process and i have read that many women have successful 2nd attempts with the FET cause they are more relaxed, the transfer follows your natural cycle and they are physically ready.  Good luck to you!

I have never been able to get preg. forever....then I called my INS and had all the funds avaiable...i never tried clomid or anything else....what is the use...why spend money on something that is not guarenteed...even though IVF is not full proff either you might as well go for the most aggressive route...
I did IVF and was successful on the first attempt...I'm was 30 and just now turned 31....I have 19 eggs retrieved and with ICSC...or whatever its called....17 took and then on transferday there was 15 left...and 3/4 were frozen on day 3 and 1 made it to day 5 and I know they discarded 10....not sure if my numbers add up...but I just crossed my fingers and wished for the best...they only transfered one little baby egg....that is what I opted for and decided to chance it...I did not want twins..financially it was a risk and it was something I was willing to risk...i wanted 2 to be transfered by my bf said no...we had backup anyhow..go figure i'm 14 weeks today!
