Hcg levels in early pregnancy

Hcg levels in early pregnancy

I just found out I am very early pregnant.  I had my blood levels drawn 14-15 days from conception to have progesterone checked b/c I had a very early miscarriage in June.  The dr. called and said my hcg was low at 40 and I would probably need to retest.  My progesterone was also a little above 40.  What range should Hcg be within the first couple weeks of conception?

Congrats on the pregnancy!!  Hcg levels can be so different because everyone is different.  There is a website that lists the ranges and says anywhere from starting at 18 is okay.  You just really need to see if they double in 48 hours and that will really determine if everything is going smoothly.  Good luck!

Hi there. I have had 27 HCG level checks in the last 6 months so please rest assured that only the ensuing blood tests will determine if your pregnancy is viable. You should be fine as this is only the first one. Take Care and baby dust!

Low22 is right on. There really is not a number you should expect at any particular point. The only important thing is they double in 48 hours. I too am very early in my pregnancy and my HCG levels were tested last Friday when I was 5w 4d they came back at 3500. I was tested again on Monday 6w and they were 8500. That's just me, and if you are lower/higher at the same point in your pregnancy it doesn't matter. As long as they are going up and up and up! Best to you and a healthy 9 months.

Thanks.  I just feel like this pregnancy is doomed.  I had my blood levels drawn on the day my period should have started, but either way you look at it is still is in the low range.  I know only the second test will tell once I see if the numbers multiply like they should, but I am expecting the worst.  I had a miscarriage right at this time last June and maybe that has made me skiddish.  I had a non-eventful non-planned first pregnancy and thought a second child would come easy!  I am thankful for her though and any time I start to get down, I just look at her.  Good luck to you all who are dealing with the same thing.

Both my miscarriages started with a brownish discharge on and off then eventually I started bleeding bright red blood.  The first mc i lost the baby 7 days after I first noticed the discharge.  With the second it was 2 weeks.

However, MANY women have spotting and bleeding throughout a pregnancy.  Don't count on hpt, they detect minute amounts of the hormone which your body will still produce even after fetal death.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and pretty confused and scared.  I'm 6wks pregnant today.  This is my 2nd pregnancy ever.  I have a 3yr old daughter also.  My problem:  I've had a continuous brown discharge since Monday this week (4 days).  It hasnt been enough to even mess on my underwear, but it varies from light/medium/dark brown discharge, so it's quite noticeable.  I called my doc on Monday (the first day of brown) when the brown hadn't subsided.  So yesterday I had my HCG levels drawn.  I get the next lab draw tomorrow for the 48hr interval.  So, the brown discharge is continuous, which I've heard is comparable to a "blighted ovum."  But I dont have any cramps at all.  I have intermittent "aching."  I have never had red or any amout of the brown discharge large enough to get on my underwear, like I stated earlier.  I think I've read every internet page on miscarriages, blighted ovums, HCG levels, signs/symptoms, etc, etc, etc...  I have even taken multiple pregnancy tests to see if my detectable HCG makes the line darker.  The line is a little darker, but not DARK as I'd like it to be.  So I know that I may not have an ectopic pregnancy.  My pregnancy symptoms before the brown discharge were much more than they are now.  I still have a little bit of food aversions and very minute nausea, but not like it was beforehand.  Also, once I found out I was pregnant, I took myself off of Effexor XR and a beta-blocker high blood pressure medicine I took for my migraines.  I want to know if either of those would interfere with keeping a pregnancy IF I"m having a miscarriage, or if coming off the BP medicine would make my blood pressure go up enough to threaten miscarriage (I havent taken my BP yet, and should).  So, I need to know about the continuous brown discharge x4 days, no cramps, HCG levels at 6wks, and coming off of those meds stated above.  I know it's a lot, but geez, the "freaked out" feelings I'm having about all this is just overwhelming...  So thank you for ANY input any of you have...  thank you very much.

I suffered 3 natural m/c right about the same time but a little earlier...more like 5.5 weeks.

There was no mistaken my m/c...The first started with bright red blood...spotting started around 7p at night and by morning it was heavy..pouring out of me like water.  I had to take 3 showers in less than 45 minutes.

No doubt what was happening...had my blood checked that day and it was only 69...2 days later...32.  I bled for a total of 3 days and then I got my AF 3 weeks later.

The second natural m/c started with days of cramping...bad menstrual cramps and bad lower back cramps.  The bleeding started light (again bright red) and it took about a day to get heavier...then I bled for 2 days and got my new AF 2.5 weeks later.

I'm not certain you are m/c...but have heard it can happen with light brown spotting...but brownish color means older blood.  Your system could be flushing itself....I would try and I do mean TRY to relax and wait for the blood work.

I too have a daughter...2 yrs old so I never imagined a m/c...let alone 2 natural ones and now more recently a 3rd that went to 8.5 weeks and then finally a d&e.

It's heartbreaking to go through for any women especially after having a healthy pregnancy and baby prior...

Believe that GOD is taking care of your baby...no matter what the outcome...GOD has your tiny baby in HIS loving arms...always.

FAITH IS NOT BELIEVING THAT GOD CAN. IT'S KNOWING THAT HE WILL

I'm so sorry you are going through this and it's tormenting when you have a perfectly healthy child already.

DH and I had a beautiful strong-healthy pregnancy and baby girl 2 yrs ago...now 3 m/c.

It's painful and very unexpected.  My other pregnancy happened just like and pretty boring pregnancy...no problems what so ever.

Now I've had 2 natural m/c at 5.5-6weeks...and then another induced by d&e at 8.5 weeks....

Not sure why our other pregnancy and baby were perfect...very disturbing.

Anyway...just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for you...one loss is more than enough for any mother.  I'm certain you and your baby will do fine this time.

GOD BLESS, AND KEEP IN MIND HE BLESSED YOU ONCE WITH A BEAUTIFUL GIRL...HE'LL BLESS YOU AGAIN WITH ANOTHER BABY SOON.

So I got my first results... an HCG of 198 @ 42days gestation...  The nurse said that's a positive pregnancy test, but a low positive... as far as the HCG charts, that's REAL low.  So, I guess I need to accept the inevitible... I'm still going tomorrow to get my 2nd lab draw to see if there's any chance that the levels rise... Anyhoo, thank you for "playing" and wish all of you well in your journies!  I'll let you know Monday what the 2nd test reveals...

Those hpts turn positive at like 20 or 25 (cheaper ones maybe 50) hcg.  If your test turns positive the day you miss your period (the day most people tell you to test), 40 is not an unlikely number---it has to start somewhere.  If you double in 48hrs, you're at 80, in 2 more days 160 within a week 320. After that it goes real fast. I wouldn't worry til you see the second number.

Hi everyone.  I am going on five weeks pregnant and I recently had my hcg tested.  The first result was 6520 and two days later the result had increased but not doubled to 7690.  The Dr. said this is within normal range although it should have doubled.  My progesterone level is normal, and I am giong to have an early ultrasound next week.  The Dr. said at this point it is a postive, viable pregnancy.  Has anyone experienced an increasing hcg level but not doubling?  Is a miscarriage inevitable?  I have had no other symptoms, such as bleeding, of a miscarriage.  Any help or information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I too am only on my 5-6th week (not sure since I'm irregular). However, my hcg is only at 700 something last Tuesday. I took my first blood test last week Wed. at 300 then Friday it went up to 400 then I took my last one this past Tuesday after the labor weekend and the result is only 700 something. So this isn't doubling at all. I still have my on and off nausea, only light cramping early this week for a couple of mins, and no colored discharge. My first prenatal visit is next Wed. although I accidentally went last Wed. but the Dr. saw me anyway and performed a transvaginal ulrasound she said based on my last period I was supposed to be 5 weeks and 4 days BUT she didn't detect the fetus yet, so I may be earlier than I thought hence she requested for me to get a HCG count bloodtest and here I am. I just get nervous that my HCG is not doubling but as long as I am no cramping or spotting I really must have a miscaculated conception.
