Hcg levels/miscarrages

okay, i found out i was pregnant in febuary, my last period was 1/1/09. So i had pains at about 5 weeks so i went into the doctor, and he did an ultrasound, he saw the baby and said everything looked completely normal. i went on like normal, no bleeding spotting or anything at all, so at my 11 week check up he went to listen for the heart beat on a doplar, and couldnt find it he said it was normal to not here it on it till about 13-14 weeks, so he said for me to come back each week till we heard the heartbeat, the next week he couldnt hear it again so he told me to get an U/S so i went and the lady said that there was no baby in the sac? but that my utrus was a normal 12 week uturs. and the doctor sent me home and told me to wait to misscarry, its been about 2 almost 3 weeks and nothing, just some cramps here and there[ which my doctor at 5 weeks told me can be growing pains] i have already kinda coped with the loss of the baby, but im visiting some family and decided to go to the hospital and get checked out. they did a blood test and my hcg was 350000 and he was shocked it was so high, he wants me to go back and get my blood drawn again, which i dont understand how my hcg could be so high when im suppose to be in low numbers now, but im not sure what it was before this so im not so sure if it went down.

has this happened to anyone.
im trying not to get my hopes up but im just holding on to a little bit now.
and i was wondering what you think?
i mean i know they did and U/S and there was no baby, but why havent i miscarried yet, and why is my hcg so high?
