Heart-Shaped Uterus

Heart-Shaped Uterus

I am 16, I just found out that I have two uterus and they are shaped as a heart. I am going in a couple weeks to make sure everything is okay and that I have no problem with either one of them. I was wanting to know if having this can give me a false negative, or no signs of being pregnant at all. I am also on the De-Po shot, can having the two uterus make my chances high on getting prenant on the shot higher then woman with only one uterus?

Thank you!!

Unless you also had extra ovaries, there would be nothing about a bicorunate or didelphic uterus that would make you have any kind of overdose of hormones or make your birth control ineffective.  It's even possible that if you had extra ovaries, it wouldn't matter, since ovaries take turns in producing an egg (even for women with the normal number of ovaries, one produces an egg one month, and the other takes a rest.)  A lot depends on how separate the uteruses are ... if they are connected and just have a septum, the septum can be removed if the doctor thinks it will later pose a problem when you are pregnant.  But as far as getting pregnant is concerned, there is no hormonal issue caused by an unusual uterus shape.  Certainly a didelphic uterus or a bicorunate uterus will not give you a false negative on a pregnancy test.

My sister has that, the doctors told her it would be nearly impossible to have a baby, but she did get pregnant, but was considered highrisk and had to havve a c section because my nephew didn't have enough room to turn. You have a very rare condition!

Hi, I was 16 when I found out about my bicornuate or "heart" shaped uterus.  I didn't know what that meant either and it scared me too.  The good news is that it is more common than you think and that it isn't a real bad thing.
Did the doctor say that it was heart shaped which means that you have one uterus that comes down at the top and is kind of a split or that you have two uterus? There is a big difference.
I do not know a lot about the two complete uterus but here is what i know about the heart shaped ones.
My doctor tolf me that
A) It is not normal but is common.
B) If the top of the uterus comes down too far there is a possibility of haveing some surgery to remove some of it but it is not needed in my case.
C) She told me that I should not have problems getting pregnate or keeping a baby.- In your case at 16 this is not an issue but something that was a concern of mine now that I am 27 and married.
D) The major issue for me is going to be at the end of the pregnancy- The baby could run out of room and need to be removed via C section if it can't flip around in order to come out head first, aka breach.
E) I have never heard about this problem increasing your chances of getting pregnate or giving you a false negative on a pregnancy test.  Most women are concerned that they might have less of a chance getting to full term with their baby.
D) This condition is something that you are born with and women who have any kind of uterus problems should be aware that the uterus and kidneys form at the same time.  Ask your doctor to check out your kidneys too- some women only have 1 or they are misshaped or they can be perfectly formed.

Good luck and don't forget that your doctor is the only one that can really tell you what is going on inside of your body and no matter what you will be okay.
