Heart murmur due to pregnancy??

by Hope2OneDay, Sep 13, 2006 12:00AM
Hi everyone! Just a quick question...

I went to the dr yesterday for my first REAL prenatal appointment (I went two weeks ago due to spotting just to be checked). The baby is fine, with a heartbeat of 175 beats per minute, and I am approx. 8W 3D along.

However, they also discovered I had a heart murmur, and would like to assume it is due to my pregnancy, since I've never had a problem with it before. I am to see a cardiologist on the 28th to be sure it isn't something more complicated.

Although I feel positive it is being caused by my pregnancy, I was wondering if anyone else has been through this? And what was the outcome? Vsentz sent me some info on heart murmurs (thanks, girl! ;-) so I already have an idea of what they are...but would still like to hear some personal stories, if anyone has them. I'm just a little nervous that it may cause me problems during my pgcy with breathing...because from what I understand, I will already be struggling for air the further along I get! Thanks ladies!

I have a heart mu. I've never had any problems w/ it. The DR found it when I was little. If he had never told me I'd never known. This is my 2nd pg I'm 26wks & DS#1 turned out just fine so I'm praying this one will follow So far things are great. I had no bre. problems during pg & none while giving birth to DS#1. Hope this helps ease your mind:) LOVE & PRAYERS

I totally 4get I have it til I get dental wk done & they give me meds to take before they begin (like wisdom teeth being removed) but for reg things like fillings they don't give me any thing extra to take.
But I always make sure on any medical papers I fill out that I  mention that I have one just to be safe:)

Alot of people go their whole lives not knowing they have one especially since they don't frequent doctors. One of my good friends didn't find out he had one until he was 22 we were shocked that the dr never found it he had gone like 3 times before and was never told.

I had a heart murmur with my last baby. She's now 9.5 months old & I'm fine! I too was diagnosed @ my first ob/gyn appt. after I switched ob's. My dr. said if my symptoms got worse then she would send me to a cardiologist, who would probably have me wear something for 24-48 hrs to monitor my heart. My symptoms were fluttering of my heart & the feeling like I lost my breath for a second. Luckily my symptoms didn't get worse, they actually got better. The murmur is due to the increase blood flow that you now have. You'll be just fine! Good luck to you in your pregnancy!!

Thanks everyone! I'm not going to fret over it...I will just have faith that everything is going to be fine.
