Help! Anyone experience eczema with teething??

Help! Anyone experience eczema with teething??

Oh DD is driving herself and us out of our minds!  She is shy 1 month of her 2nd birthday.  She is teething and all of a sudden for the last 2 weeks has been waking up covered in bumps scratching and crying.  I put hydrocortizone cream and give her benedryl.  But she still wakes up.  I am so angry because none of the doctors offices can get her in for another month.  I will lose it by then.
Then I just found out she has to have a heart procedure for her PDA.  Not a good week!

I am so annoyed at your Dr.! Lily is shy 1 month of her 2nd too and she has no signs of teething or bumps. I think she was cutting the 2 year molars last month. I'm sorry, what is a heart procedure for PDA? I sure hope things get better :(

A Patent Ductus Arteriosus is like this...when you are in the womb, there is a blood vessel that is attached to the mother for oxygen etc.  When you are born, it will close off as you begin breathing on your own.  Ameera's never closed.  The problem now is that there is too much blood flow that can get into her lungs and she could have serious problems as she gets older especially an infection in her lungs.  It is twice as common in girls than boys.  It is not a rare disorder but will require her a stay in the hospital and recovery (keeping her still) will be more of a challenge.  Ameera's case is more rare in that this condition happens mostly to premature infants or mothers who had rubella while pregnant (not my case).  I am sure it will all be fine but the doc was so sure last year that it would close on its own so he was shocked yesterday when the ECHO showed that it got larger

I'm so sorry to hear your little girl has to go through surgery, and sorry that you must watch helpless with this.  I hope it all turns out well for both of you (peace for you and a good surgery for your child).

If your doc's office has a nurse line, check with using both benedryl and the hyrdocortizone....  something our doc said about stuff we were using would actually make the itching worse (but I think we were using children's benedryl and benedryl itch cream to start).

Common lotions for eczema include:  Aquaphor, Eucerin (we use this one) and there's one more, but my brain just left.  Sorry.  We actually had to put our dd on prescription Atarax for the itching (at 2) because it can be so severe especially at night.  She's been on Atarax and Singular (for allergies and asthma) for 7 months now along with a host of creams (steriods and non-steriodals).  One that we love is Hylera (that's a prescription goo for the skin, puts moisture back).  If she has it on her face, Atopiclair.  And we are using Eucerin with Triamcincolone (sp???) as a 1:1 mix for overall body.  We have other stuff for her hot spots and special stuff for her vaginal area.

Just a little info on what we've done for eczema...our dd's is not severe(according to doc), but she gets pretty well covered in it when it breaks out.  Her wrists and ankles are now the worst spots, but at one time it was anywhere there was a joint (back of knees, elbows, etc) and around her waist and diaper.

Good luck to you...and I do hope all goes well with her surgery.

benedril could be why she is waking up - that stuff turns babies into crazy animals.  My dd literally ran right into our front door and gave herself a black eye.  Laughed and ran around in circles after that.  There is a warning on the back.  sounds more like a reaction type rash then eczema but you can try aquaphor.  I use that for my dd eczema and it works great.

edward had eczema as an infant and a little here and there after that. when it was bad the doctor prescribed otc 2% hydrocortizone cream. they also have a 1%, less strong. i also swore by the aquaphor. it helped the most out of anything we tried, by far. i also used the aveeno baby bath products. the bath wash primarially. all of these in conjuction with eachother should do the trick. i have never tried baby benadryl, so im not really sure if that will definately help. i though that was more for an allergic reaction type rash, rather than eczema. i also dont think the eczema and teething necessarily go together. while teething can come with a multitude of different symptoms, i dont think a rash is one of them. your poor girl is just getting hit all at once. good luck.

Oh, Sue.  So sorry to hear that you're having so much on your plate right now.  Could it be masquito bites?  As dumb as it sounds, Ariella was complaining and scratching her feet and I didn't realize that she was bitten in a few places.  How was the move to the new house?  When is Ameera having the procedure done?

my daughter had severe eczema and some of the things that worked were, long, long baths, cover her with vaseline out of the bath to keep in that moisture, wrap her in a towel and watch a show for 20-30 minutes to get the vaseline to soak in.  sometimes two baths a day with the vaseline.
