Help! I Am Giving Birth to Goliath!

Help! I Am Giving Birth to Goliath!

I just had my 32 week appointment (my last anticipated u/s before the big day), and they are guestimating my baby to be about 6 lbs. 3 oz. right now.  They said that he could likely make 10 pounds by 40 weeks!  I do not think my body can birth a 10 pound baby!!!!  Anyone out there have their doctor suggest an induction or c-section with such a weight?  It is my first baby and women in my family have struggled just to birth average size babies.  We are small women and do not have the birthing hips!

My doctor induced me two weeks early because he didnt want to run into complications. Maybe they will do that for you too.  I didnt have a big baby, pretty average he was 7lb 9oz and 191/2 inches long. I have a small frame. Your title made me laugh.

Do keep in mind that the u/s measurements are historically inaccurate the further along you go. For instance, with my first the day the induced me they told me he was at least 9 lbs 6 ounces! I freaked out! He came out at 8lbs 5 ounces and 19 inches long., Still more than my body could handle on its own, my reward for a bigger baby was a 3rd degree episiotomy ; ) Don't stress too much, your baby could end up being an average size afterall.

I have heard that the U/S can be a pound or so off, but even if he is a pound smaller, we're still looking at 9 POUNDS!  Not much of a comfort.

my first baby was 10lbs 4 ozs....i was 42 weeks...labour was induced...little bugger didn't want to come out...finally he did after 37 hours !!!!  made a nice path for his brother and sister later though.  I was not a big girl at that time.  One of my girlfriends had a baby Naturally...no pain meds that was 9lbs 14ozs and she is 5 foot nuthin and weighs 100lbs soaking wet!  So it is do-able.  The female body is an amazing thing!  Best of luck!!

Try to worry to much.  My baby was 6lbs 6oz according to the U/S at 35 weeks and at birth she was only 6lbs 15oz.  I am a bigger girl and I could not give birth to a 6lb 15oz baby naturally because she was stuck on my pelvic bone.  I have to have a c-section.  I thought I was a shoe in because I was a bigger girl, but my doctor laughed and told me that it had nothing to do with the size of the girl or how wide the hips were, it was all about to the pelvic bone.  Don't try to stress to much, you will be just fine. :)

My baby is measuring big.  I do not want a C section, the idea scares me.  I am very clear to my doctor about it and every visit since about a months ago (we wanted to see me weekly for a time becasue of the size increase) I have told him this.  After my 36 week ultrasound (I am 34 weeks) we will know better.  He says at that time he will wil lstart by stripping the membrane is needed but he is very conservative about saying induction.  I don't blame him but I would rather try induction then have the baby be to big and have a c section.  Unfortunatly a pound off does not give me comfort either when it comes to ultrasounds.

I too worried myself to death about the dreaded C-Section and guess what?  After 3 hours of pushing and being exhausted, I welcomed the C-Section.  It was all over in a matter of minutes.  I would do it again.  Healing is not that bad.  Have an open mind--probably things will not go the way you planned, but a day postpartum, you will be like, "why did I care?  look what I have now!"
