Help a teen

Hi ladies! I'm 17 and in some trouble. I've missed my period since the end of february. I have had sex twice. Always used a condom and pulled out just in case. I have gained some weight. I have had a negative pregnancy test. I can't talk to my mom about it. What do I do?

If your negative pregnancy test was well after the last time you had sex (at least three weeks after) and was done according to the instructions, you are probably not pregnant.  But if you didn't follow the instructions exactly, you might want to take another pregnancy test.  If it is negative again, ask your mom if you can have a gyno exam, tell her you think you might have a UTI.  Then be honest with your doctor (he or she will not reveal what you say to your mother).  He or she can run some diagnostics to see what is going on with your absent period.

Could be a few things. You would need to see a doctor to determine what might be wrong. Is there a reason you can't talk to your mom? If you're pregnant she will find out anyways, and if something medically is wrong you would have to involve them as you're under their insurance. (Unless you intend to pay all the medical bills yourself)

ps -- Sooner or later, your mom does need to know that you are having sex.  Even the most tough of moms who does not want to think their daughter is having sex yet will be glad to know that she is using protection, so she probably won't  be as mad at you as you think.  Good luck.

Thanks ladies! the reason i cant tell my mom is she doesnt want me to have the same mistakes as her. she had my brother at 18. I am going to take more preg tests next week. if they are all negative i will talk to my mother. I think she has a feeling me and my boyfriend are sleeping together, but she isnt for sure.

My mom didn't either. If you used protection though and it didn't fail I doubt you would be pregnant. Since it's been so long since your last cycle, the test would be accurate at this point. I would say skip buying tests (they're just a waste of money at this point) and just see a doctor.

It's definitely easier to talk to your mom about the fact that you are having sex when there is no added information to tell her, such as that you are pregnant or think you are.  It doesn't really sound like you are pregnant, so you could simply put the conversation out there as "I want you to know that I've been having sex, and using protection, but I would also like to see a doctor to get onto a more reliable form of birth control than condoms alone."  If she doesn't want you to make the same mistakes she did, this will already sound 100% more careful than she was.  You should be able to avoid the "I told you so" turn to the conversation.  Good luck, do talk to her.  Get in to see a doc about why your period is AWOL.
