Herniated Belly Button Abuse

by 1029284756, Aug 28, 2004 12:00AM
My 15 yr. old son, Dan, has a herniated bellybutton that shrunk alot but still stuck out a bit since he was ten. Today he used a  sowing needle and put it through the center of his belly button as far as it could possibly go. When I relized, I cleaned it then poored alchohal on it. After that I put neosporin on a bandage and put it over his bellybutton. He also pushes his belly button really hard with his finger, pen, and pencils, so hard that it becomes really black and blue. I am worried it could get infection, make his hernia grow, or worse. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE INFORM ME ABOUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO HIS BELLYBUTTON AND HIM?! I'M REALY WORRIED! Thank You

I hope sincerely this post is just a joke.

If not:
--massive infection is about the first thing that comes to mind.  It doesn't matter if you put alcohol on the external wound--a sewing needle is mighty long, and whatever bacteria it had on it was introduced right into his abdomen.

I'd call his doctor and find out if there is anything to do right now.  And then get him to a therapist to find out why he is self mutilating.
