High Chairs

High Chairs

Which high chairs do you own and really like/dislike?  I'm looking to get some for my 4 month old (premature) babies.  They don't sit up on their own yet, so I'll need some that work for young babies as well as toddlers.  Thanks in advance!

i loved my highchair when my dd was smaller because it reclined to 3 settings. when she was smaller i'd have it reclined so she could sit in it while i worked in the kitchen. dd was premature and tiny, so i had to wait until she was about a month before i put her in it. also, i used one of those headrests you put in a stroller or carseat. it didn't recline all the way- just to about the highest elevation of a bouncy seat. it's a hand-me down peg perego. now that she's a big girl (only 6 months but seems so big to me- sitting and eating) she loves it fully upright. there's lots of room to grow, and the person who gave it to me used it while their dd was a toddler.

i have a highchair from target that sits on top of the regular kitchen chair and is secured on. it works really well for us since we have limited space. it has a reclining position, an upright positions and also converts to a bosster seat for older children. it was only $50.00. def. worth the money. heres the link:

I had what girliegirl is talking about. I had a reclining high chair, but it was ENORMOUS and bulky.  The little ones that attach to a regular chair and convert are the best way to go--and the cheaper way as well.

My sister got the svan high chair which is really unique and nice looking. She really likes it and it converts into a booster chair as the child growns.

We too have the Fisher Price Aquarium Ocean Wonders Healthy Choice high chair, since we have the rest of the collection to match (pack-n-play, swing, bouncer, etc.)  It works well, and our son loves it, however it does have a few issues....

It has 2 clip on toys (a starfish teether and a crab rattle) which attach to the tray-- little did we know they are NOT dishwasher safe so have to be handwashed every time, and the rattle gets water in it. Blah.  So we don't use them.
It has a blue snap-in tray which IS dishwasher safe and is nice because it has compartments for the finger food to go in.  However, it does not completely cover the white bottom/normal tray, and our son always manages to get his sticky fingers all over that tray too, so we end up not just cleaning one tray every feeding- but two.  Also, the blue tray is big and bulky and takes up the entire top of my dishwasher rack.
It's seat is cushy and comfortable, BUT it has all these frilly ruffles which surround it and are a magnet for our son's dirty hands.  He likes to grab the ruffles and get them all filthy, so it's a constant battle to either keep his hands off of them, or else scrubbing it down after every feeding.  (It also has lots of crevices on the seat portion where the food drops through to the base.)
It does come with a nice looking removable toy bar which plays music and has little fish that float around which is suppose to entertain the little one while you're getting the meal ready.  However, to make the fish "swim" (bubbles move the solution), baby has to press on these buttons pretty hard.  My son is now 14 mo. old and still has a hard time pressing hard enough to make the fish swim; and by this point, it's not entertaining enough to make it worth getting it out and cleaning it afterwards.
Trivial, but it has wheel locks which stick WAY out and are constantly getting kicked down by anyone walking by or even by our dogs.  You can't just use your toe/foot to unlock them and pull them back up; you have to bend down and release them with your hands.  It's a big chair and takes up a lot of room in our smaller kitchen.

Anyway, I know Fisher Price makes other similar highchairs now in different themes (jungle animals, etc.); but I'd imagine they too would have these same or similar issues.  We obviously are just going to stick with this same highchair for baby #2, afterall, it does still function and was almost $100.  But, personally, I'd recommend just getting a simpler, easier to clean, plain highchair.

Two of the moms in my Mommy & Me group have those seats that attach to your normal kitchen chairs and LOVE them... they don't take up any room, are easy to clean, and their kids don't have to then move from a highchair to a booster seat- it's one and the same.  I'd seriously consider getting one of those (as were mentioned by other posters.)

my mother in law got us this one...

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5031424

i really don't like it...if i would of known thats what she was going to buy, i would of bought it myself.. for 20$ more to the one i wanted...which is this one...

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4241533

i think i am going to go buy it anyways and tell her someone gave it as a present and i cant exactly give it back..my apt is so small and to fit a high chair that takes up soo much space like that is just ridiculous..i know she might not have had the money to buy my son anything but jeez i would of paid the balance...ugh...sighs

i told her this as well and i just feel like i am being so mean...its nice of her but jeez my kitchen is my dinning room and you cant fit much more than just my table...so..can you imagine a high chair with legs that stick out and no corner to stuff it in...???

I'd have to agree with you!!  The 2nd link you gave is the one I've seen at other moms' houses and they all rave about it!

Trust me, I hear ya' about smaller kitchens and BIG highchairs.  Ours takes up a huge amount of space and is always in the way it seems.  I ended up having to put one of the kitchen chairs down in our basement (and it's a nasty, leaky, cobweb-filled hole in the ground basement, so I'm NOT thrilled abou that) to make room for this highchair we have.  Ours was a gift from my MIL too... I didn't want to offend her, and it is a high-end expensive gift, but I wish in-laws (and others for that matter) would just ask us if we have preferences for these fundimental items.

Maybe you can suggest that your MIL take the big highchair to her house, so that when your little one visits it can be used there?

well as for the mil...she isnt a very nice and understanding person to begin with so in my defense it would probably be  better if i just kept hush about it because i can only imagine the things she will come up with next..again...as usual..she already thinks im a horrible mother and that im too young and that my thoughts and views on this are just stupid...but im sorry just because she is almost 52 and i am almost 22 doesnt mean i am neither of those things...i get the sh*tty end of things and my bf doesnt stick up for me..as for her having a high chair at her place.. she sees my son once a week...she plans on having him alone so that she can throw away my bottles and give him the ones she wants...she doesnt like pushing the air out of my bottles...i think next time around i am going to breastfeed just for the fact that she will not have to feed my baby....so that there will be no nagging...lol

Thanks!  Wow, people LOVE those Fisher Price Space Savers.  I am a member of the Triplet Connection website and they unanimously agree that those are the only way to go.  So, I ordered two from Target today.  They had free shipping.  I'm excited to get them and appreciate the input!
