Hives 2 weeks post partum

by emmabemma, Mar 05, 2007 12:00AM
has anyone ever gotten hives after giving birth? i have gotten hives around my middle and lower back as well as on my inner thigh 3 times in the last 4 days. is this something i should make an appt with my dr about? my blood counts are low due to blood loss and i'm taking iron pills. that's the only change. i guess i'm stressed and anxious as well. would that be a reason?

My dear congratulations on your baby! I will contact your doc and see if its anything else you are eating. After a pregnancy body changes a lot and you might became allegic to something you were not before. Are you breastfeeding? If so, don't wait, call your doc. you don't want to pass it to the baby. Doctor may prescribe Benadryl.

Hives are usually caused by some type of reaction to something. But rarly are they caused by something serious. Chronic hives (hives that last 6 weeks or more) They can come and go, generely the cause is never found. And they dissapear as mistereously as they appeared. I had hives for 4 months, which was after a very stressful time of my life. I have heard that stress can possibly be linked to hives. I would go talk to your doctor just to make sure that it isn't something serious. But I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck, and cogradulations.

How are you doing?  I remember your post from a couple of weeks ago.  I was so worried about you and hope your doing ok.  Alot of us girls were thinking about you.

Yes, I posted something several weeks ago about having a rash/hives 5 months postpartum.  I thought it was so odd---I think a lot of it had to do with various stress in my life, I am better now though.  It could also be the hormones.

thanks for wondering. i'm doing ok. i guess stress must be the obvious reason for the hives. i've now gotten them 4 out of the last 5 evenings. there is no particular stress at that time.
it's been 2 weeks now since the interruption of the pregnancy. i've had a few good days where i thought i was doing really well. now, i'm very anxious about going out of my house. i'm afraid to see people - do they know? do they think i'm still pregnant? what will they say? what will i say? thankfully, i have a lot of sick days to use at work so i'm off at least until april to get myself back together. i'm trying to set myself some goals each day - which will occasionally include leaving the house for simple things like walking the dogs, going to get groceries or going to the chiropractor.
i appreciate your concern.
