How can I conceive if I only have a period every 3 months?

I had my son when my periods were normal and it was very easy. After having my son and he is 2 my periods are all messed up. Me and my husband are trying again and I am never ovulating when i check with a kit. Can I even conceive with these irregualr periods? Because I have no idea we have been trying and still nothing?

It depends on whether or not you are actually ovulating.  Typically, a period results about 12-16 days after ovulation occurs when the egg is not fertilized.  However, there are cases in which a women experiences bleeding that is mistaken for a period but she does not ovulate - this is called an anovulatory cycle.

If you are ovulating, this would occur "approximately" 2.5 months after your last period since your periods are occurring every 3 months so you could start charting your basal temperature, CM changes, and using an ovulation predictor kit around that time (I would suggest a week earlier).

It would probably be a good idea to pay your doctor a visit though to find out if you are actually ovulating and why you are irregular - especially since this is something that you didnt experience before the birth of your son.

Good luck and keep us informed.
