How can I get rid of stains on DD clothes without using harsh chemicals?

by Me2mommy2b, Sep 19, 2007 11:36AM
DD's been getting into every little hole she can find and she's become a pro at staining her cute outfits.  I feel terrible throwing them out as they're in excellent condition (other than the stains).  What product can I use to get rid of the stains?  I don't want to use Shout (that's what I use for us) b/c it probably has all those chemicals.  Thanks in advance.

Ocyclean baby is supposed to be safe. Actually, I feel that even the shout would be washed out for the most part after laundering. On whites you could use peroxide. Best wishes.

Putting clothes in boiling water works... i guess the heat releases the stains... Not sure how great the hotness of the h2o is for the clothes...

Also, the SUN... putting clothes on a line is great, the sun acts like a bleaching agent...

Depends on the stain.  If it is fruit, you can stretch the item out over a bowl in the sink and pour boiling water through it from a kettle, it goes away immediately.  We also use the Clorox for Colors (chlorine free bleach) on Augie's baby clothes (along with Dreft), and a lot of stains go away.

Please check out www.freedomforfamily.com.  There are all types of cleaners for your clothes and home without all the harsh chemicals.  The website will give you all the info on how to get the products.  I use them and they're great.  My husband is a mechanic and the spot removers get out his grease stains.  Good luck on your search!!

I have not ever really had to baby my kids clothes (no pun intended). I wash theirs with the rest of the family and they have never reacted. I use Tide or All and Shout when needed. But you can use vinegar to remove some stains, baking soda for others, etc. I have a great book called "Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Things" It has a ton of stain removal tips as well as lots of non-toxic items you have on hand for a multitude of things. I ordered mine from DoubleDay Bookclub for $.49 on one of their introductory deals. Great book!

Shout, oxyclean baby and Spray n Way Dual Power is incredible. Most of the chemicals that you're worried about will wash right out along with the stains when laundered in hot water.

I'm with Andi though and wash my girls' clothes the same as I wash my own with Tide.

Since I still have Dreft left from when she was just born, I keep using it.  It's a 300 fl oz container and it's lasted me for a year and seems like it'll last me for much longer (even though I wash her clothes at least twice a week)

i use oxyclean and love it! i give it as part of shower gift. spray on clothes right before washing, otherwise it will eat through fabric (learned the hard way). i have never had a garment left stained, after 2.5 years! i was able to reuse all ds clothing for new baby boy.

There is this stuff called "Awesome" and it's great!  It gets out blood and poo and everything.  I just spray on and wash.
