How do you keep up?

How do you keep up?

Im trying to breast feed but it seems I cant keep up. My milk is in but i've had him on a bottle and it was giving him bad gas I think it was the formula. Is it just I haven't found a good system yet and it seems that he wont latch right anymore. I really don't want to put him back on formula but I can't help feel i'm doing this miserably wrong and I don't want to put him back through all the pain he was in with gas the other night. please help?

When I had my son I wasn't making much milk either. He was on formula until my milk came in and then when I would try to nurse him he would get mad!! So I would pump about every 2-3 except at night and mix my milk in with the formula... He had also been getting gassy so I used Mylicon gas drops at every feeding - they worked really well! My little one was a big eater when he was that young - he's now a bit picky!!! Hope this helps a bit Good Luck :)

How long ago did you give birth? I know that right after I had my baby I felt like such a failure at breastfeeding. It seemed like as soon as I got her on she would be off or that she wasn't eating as often as she needed to. Try buying a hand pump (I highly recommend the avent isis) so that your milk supply doesn't go down... also he could just prefer a bottle (some babies do)... if you decide to give him formula I agree with dnikki use the mylicon drops honestly they work wonders. Best of luck and congrats on your baby! :)

Maybe you could see a lactation consultant.  The hospital where I delivered had them and my insurance paid for visits with them.  They have really helped with getting my daughter to latch better and given good advice about breastfeeding.  Good luck.

Nurse, nurse, nurse. That is the only way to bring up the supply. For future reference, there is no need to supplement while waiting for you milk to come in, nursing will keep the baby satiated. And it is expected that your baby will nurse very frequently, especially during the first few months.
