How do you know when M/C is over?

by ougirl, Dec 30, 2006 12:00AM
Wondering if anyone can shed light on my situation. I apologize if TMI but really don't know what to think. I was 8 wks pg and baby stopped developing at 6wk 5days, confirmed by u/s 12/27. I was spotting a little, light pink that day. The Dr. gave me my options and I chose to take Cytotec this weekend to speed things along. Friday at 3am I woke up with cramping which got progressively worse and by 10am it was very bad. Bleeding heavily and passing small clots but the pain was controllable with Darvocet. The Dr. said to go ahead and take the Cytotec which I did around 3pm. By 7pm I was in agony and it took 4 Darvocet to get the pain to a manageable level. I continued to bleed heavily and pass small clots but never really saw any tissue, sac, etc. I managed to fall asleep around 3am (after 24 hours of this) and woke up at noon feeling pretty normal again, bleeding has subsided and no cramping today. My concern is from everything I've read, should I have known when I passed everything or is it possible that the m/c is complete? I hate to think I went through all that pain only to have to go in for a D&C. Any thoughts?

Sorry for your loss when I had a m/c I had all the same symptons as you but was 12 weeks along and actually saw a little baby and passed alot of white tissue I had a friend who m/c at 11 weeks but baby had died at 6 weeks and she said she saw a sac which was quite obvious to her maybe you should get an u/s done just incase the sac hasnt passed but it may have without you even knowing. Take care hope you dont need a D and C good luck in your next pregnancy.

I had a miscarraige at 9 weeks but ultrasound read 6 weeks. I had cramps and every moment I made, a big gush of blood would come out. I would run to the bathroom all the time I felt that since I don't think a pad would be able to hold all that blood at once. I had a lot of clots but once I saw a big clot (like the size of lemon, I knew that it was all over. Once that came out, the blood had gotten much less. It was more like a regular period. I did end up going to the ER which they did a vaginal ultrasound and they told me everything had came out completely. I hope this info helps you because I know that it is a scary moment but you will be okay with the help of God. Take care and may God give you the strenght to continue on.

I had a m/c at 11w4d and lost my baby and a lot of other stuff at one time.  Bleeding was Heavy, clots were large, etc.  But the next day the bleeding had subsided, however, the day after that, I had another gush of fluid and that is when I passed the placenta, about the size of your hand.  So, I am just sharing this to say, although your bleeding may have subsided somewhat, it may not be completely over.  If you have not passed something by tomorrow I would definately call my doctor.  I sympathize with your pain and hate you had to go through this!
