How early can a fetal pole be detected?

by lhfoo, Sep 11, 2006 12:00AM
I woke up this morning and when I went to the bathroom there was blood on the tissue when I wiped. I went to the emergency room and according to my LMP, I am 4 wks 2 days. I wasn't cramping any different to the ones I've been feeling off and on since I found out I was pregnant. They had me do an ultrasound and said there was a gestational sac measuring 5 weeks but no fetal pole. My hcg level is 2027. The doc asked me to come back onm Wednesday to see if my numbers are doubling. I am sort of nervous now even though the spotting has stopped. When is the fetal pole normally detected?

at my ultrasound i was 5 weeks 2 days and all we could see was a sac.  the next week the fetal pole and heartbeat were there.  i think 4 weeks is way too early to see a fetal pole, don't worry.

mine showed at 6.5 weeks

4 weeks, even 5 weeks is a little early to see the fetal pole. I saw mine at 6.3 weeks. be positive, your numbers look good.

Thanks, I feel a little more at ease now.

I was told 6 weeks, too, but my doctor couldn't see a fetal pole at 8 weeks--but at 9 weeks, 5 days, the technician saw everything.
