How early do you pierce baby girl's ears?

How early do you pierce baby girl's ears?

I have heard mixed things about it..the earlier the better, because they pull on their ears.  Also who do you go to?  Was going to get it done for DD's first birthday (or shortly before)

Both of my girls got their ears pierced at 2 month.  One lady did the left and another did the right at the same time.  They were sleeping and only cried for a second or two.

I did not get my ears pierced until I was 7 years old. My parents thought that it was my body, and when I was able to make the decision to want it done myself, they took me to do it.

I waited until my daughter was 6, because that's when around the age when I got mine done and I remember being SOOOOO excited and wanting it done SOOOO bad....it was the best day ever.

So, I waited for her to ask for it, and it was the best day ever for her too!

My dd was over 2 years old and I wish I had gotten done sooner.  It didn't cause any problems.  But her father's family is Mexican and they were on my butt to do it.  I finally decided to stand up and do it, but like I said I wish I had done it around 3 months or so.

When she is old enough to decide for herself.

I got my girls ears pierces last month when she was three months. If she does not like it later she can just remove the earrings and it closes by itself in less than a month.(I know many, of whom this has happened accidently)

If you wish to have it done for her, it is better done at an early age like 2-4 months, so that the baby does not pull it and make it septic. My girls is fine now and I even changed her hospital stud to a new cute stone and gold one.
She looks cute :)

But you can also let her decide when she is ready.

I think you do it whenever you want to, or whenever you think it's right. I have four daughters and they got later and later. My first was a baby. She rarely wears earrings and she's 15. My second was 1. She wears earrings all the time now and will soon be 14. My third was 2. She never wears them but might when she gets older and my fourth daughter was 4. She never wears them either, but might someday. Some people wait, some don't. There is no right time. I think little girls look cute with them in (:

I had my ears pierced on my 8th birthday, and I loved them at first, now, as an adult, I don't wear earring at all and my holes have pretty much closed up...I had several people ask me if I was going to get my daughters ears pieced as a baby..she is almost 2 now and people stopped asking..If I don't care much for my own ears, how would I take care of my daughters, who won't even keep a hat or a bow on her head!! LOL! I know My daughter at this point would never just leave her ears alone, and she would probably just pull a hole through her ear trying to get them out. This is a choice I will leave to her when she is ready and old enough to take care of them herself..Just would be easier on both of us!

When they can make the decision for themselves.

My dd was 6 months, my friedn had her dd's done at 2 months and her baby slept through it.

My dd is 16, has never had one problem with the earings.

I am carrying a girl this time but I am not sure when or if I will get hers done.

I don't think it should be done unless the person it is done to is old enough to give consent.  Infections can happen, and some people form scars more easily than others, and you won't necessarily know about this in infancy.

Think about it; if you are an adult and go get it done, you are given a consent form to read listing the possible complications so that you can make and informed decision about whether you want to risk that for themselves.  A baby won't have that luxury, to decide for themselves if they want to risk possible complications.

And it certainly isn't a necessary procedure.  You can't even argue that.  You are choosing to expose your child to a small risk, b/c the parent thinks it's cute.  For no more reason than that.

And there's also a cultural connection....

My East Indian friends have their babies done very early.

My Italian friends same thing....

North American, some are dead set against and other go for it.

Still havn't made up my mind about this soon to be little girl.  I will probably opt not.

its a personal choice that is for sure. maybe you should ask your pedo their opinion. myself think how great it would be to do it when they are older. a fun experience taking your daughter to get her ears pierced!!

HAHAHA..I was going to post this question but you beat me to it...I spoke to my pedi and he said that we're good to pierce Ariella's ears if we want to.  I'm dragging this out b/c I don't want to cause her pain but at the same time, I want her to have earrings :)  It's definitely a cultural thing...I'm all for it so is DH so why not...Now, I gotta find someone I trust to do it.

I did it myself on my daughters at 4 weeks old. There is a kit you can buy at walmart for 10 bucks and you do it your self. they were asleep when I did it and didn't cry a bit. I don't think they even noticed it was done to them.

Grade 8 is the worst.  You will swear that an alien has inhabited your dear child's body.

i know this is different but I had my sons ear pierced at 3 months at the mall.  He didn't cry at all.  I was so shocked he in kow 23 months and its still in there and we have bought him little diamond studs to go in there and he never pulls at it at all.  We gave him tylenol before he it pierced in case it made him have a headache, but everything worked out fine.
