How early do you show?

How early do you show?

I had a miscarriage in August - well a girl I work with is due at the same time I was.  It is hard to be around her knowing that what she still has I had but lost.  A little of feeling sorry for myself!  Well, she has been wearing maternity type clothes since 9 weeks!  Her belly actually looks like it has grown - is that normal?  She is short and a little heavy anyway but with my first one ( I have a 5 yr old) I did not wear maternity clothes until I was 5 months.  She has just had the first appointment no ultrasound etc.. I was just wondering if anyone else showed that fast...Thanks for letting me ask and also to vent some!

I know that this is hard for you. I am sorry about your loss. I just wanted to say that yes...I had to start wearing maternity clothes at 8 weeks with this pregnancy. I "popped" really fast, although this is #2 for me. At 6 weeks, my regular clothes were too tight! Good Luck to you! Shannon

Hi there.

I'm sorry for your loss.. we had a similar situation at my workplace last year.. I would bet it's difficult for the pg woman as well- She may feel uncomfortable being happy, etc.

Anyway, I'm pg w/ my first.. I'm at 16 weeks now and showing. I wear modest clothes anyway, so other people can't really tell, but my husband and I certainly can.  Around 9 weeks, though, I wasn't fitting into my regular clothes.. It was probably more indigestion than baby, but I was definitely bigger. Every woman is different.

And, hey, even if this lady didn't need to be in maternity clothes then.. Maybe she's just excited.  And that's ok too. If God wills, your time will come. :)

Thanks for your comments - you are right she probably feels a bit uncomfortable also.  I need to be bigger about the whole thing and honestly be happy for her.  I have had 3 miscarriages this year so I am just down anyway.  Thanks again..

when i was pregnant with my little boy Elijah that went to heaven at 20 weeks, there was two girls in my church that were preg. too and we were all due about the same time, and of course ya'll know the story they had theirs and i lost mine. I had to go to church, and it sucked for me. But then one day i got sick of dreading it and i just "purposed in my heart" to be happy for them. it wasn't always easy, especially when they came in with thier new and very cute maternity outfits, but God did give me the grace to be around them, adn then again when they brought thier new babies to church. Same thing now, my friend at church is starting to show alot and i just m/c 13 days ago. But she tried for 2 years to get pregnant, so it's alot easier with her b/c she used to be in my boat. Does that sound wierd??? soon we will all have our babies though and this will all pass!!!

I didn't "show" until around week 20 but a cousin in law that was due two months after me was wearing materinaty bras and clothes by the end of the first month! Everyone is different, but the fact that the maternity wear was so expensive made me glad I didn't need the new wardrobe until later (even though I was a little jealous)!

I have had several pregnancy losses miscarriages, ectopic, and partial mole so when I became pregnant again and things seemed to be going well I staeted to wear maternity clothes , (needlessly) I think I was just excited to be finally having a good pregnancy. However I did lose a twin in that pregnancy at 16 weeks. Then when we concieved again with our 2nd baby I waited to wear maternity clothes until I really had to to. I am now about 9 or 10 weeks pregnant with our 3rd baby (having early U/S next Thursday) and will not likely wear maternity clothes until my regular clothes are no longer fitting properly.
Being in a situation where people were always pregnant around me and I seemed to not be able to carry, I am now sensitive to the plight of others.
Also a note to all... my problem for miscarriage was a lack of progesterone and and now I get prometrium for the first trimester of each pregnancy. It really seems to have made a difference for me.

Hi Sweetie,
I can't even begin to comprehend how hard it must be for you since I've never had a m/c. I'm so sorry!!!!
My neighbor is right around 12 weeks and she is already wearing maternity clothes. (not filling them out exactally but she is just so excited)
I'm only 4 weeks (tomorrow) and I already can't fit into my clothes (same way with my son 9 years ago). I'm not even going to start wearing maternity clothes yet but I do have to wear the stretchy pants or bib overalls and the sort.
Granted......It's not "baby"......I know that but the fact remains that my regular clothes are too tight due to gas and bloating, the looser clothes are just more comfortable.
Hang in there,
Vikki

I know what you mean : ) I too know baby isn't causing clothes not to fit, but jeans are out of the questions. I have always hated anything touching my tummy when pg. I have been living in lounge pants around the house. And I invested in a bunch of pairs of overalls when I was pg a few months ago, those are a God send : )
