How effective is my birth control/weight loss

How effective is my birth control/weight loss

My DD is 8 weeks old and I went to the dr. Thurs. and had a IUD put in.  She told me to use another form of BC until I went back in 1 week to have it checked to make sure it was in the correct place.  We had been using condoms but Sat. night we had a little to drink and didn't use any protection.  DH did pull out at the end.  But I am still a little scared.  My first DD is a result of the pull out method.  I have not had a period since I deliverd and I am not breast feeding.  Do yall think I am safe or not?  Also dr. gave me Phentomine to help with weight loss, has anyone else taken this?  What was your experience?  I didn't sleep all night last night and I am not sure if it is from that.  Thanks!!!

phentermine is a stimulant. be very careful with that stuff . it is one half of the very controversial ingredients of fen-phen. (the drug that got pulled by the fda after causing so many problems)

it seems kind of drastic to use a diet medication like that for 15 pounds. be safe please. :)

phentermine is a schedule 4 controlled substance here in the US because it is addictive.

Phentermine, like many other prescription drugs, works with neurotransmitters in the brain. It is a centrally-acting stimulant and is a constitutional isomer (not to be confused with stereoisomer) of methamphetamine. It stimulates neuron bundles to release a particular group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamines; these include dopamine, epinephrine (also known as adrenalin), and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). The anorectic activity seen with these compounds would thus seem likely due to this effect on the central nervous system, which is consistent with current knowledge about central nervous system systems and feeding behavior. This is the same mechanism of action as other stimulant appetite suppressants such as diethylpropion and phendimetrazine. The neurotransmitters signal a fight-or-flight response in the body which, in turn, puts a halt to the hunger signal. As a result, it causes a loss in appetite because the brain does not receive the hunger message.

I was on Phentermine but could only take it for 4 days.  THe first night, I couldn't sleep and I felt REALLY good!  After a couple of days, my chest started to feel tight and I felt like I had to cough all of the time.  It also gave me bad heartburn.  Just be sure to watch your symptoms b/c it could cause serious problems.  If you are just losing 15 lbs, what about trying Dexatrim or something like it?  Phentermine is really for people who are trying to lose alot of weight.

I might need to try dexatrim or something.  I didn't know anything about phentermine until today when I started reserching it, I just assumed that it was safe because my dr. gave it to me.

i lost alot on atkins (over 80 pounds) but i found it was not a realistic lifestyle. the best course of action in my opinion is to find a plan you can see yourself doing reasonably from now on.

the south beach diet isn't too bad.

or just cut sugar down, and carbs from things like wgite bread, white rice etc.

you might not even need to take any of those supplements.

after my girls get here i will do the Birmingham Heart Institute diet. they use it for heavy people to lose weight fast in preperation for cardiac surgery. you diet 3 days then eat normal(not binging) for 4 and then 3 on then 4 off till you hit the target weight. it seems safe. at least according to the cardiologist i got it from. lol.

if anyone is interested i can post their plan. or email it to you.

Your doc gave you a prescription because you have 15 lbs to lose?  I think your doc is a pill pusher and you need a new doc.  Good grief, you just had a baby, walk everyday eat healthy and that weight will be gone in a few months.  Unless you are a swimsuit model who has to be back to work in 2 weeks there is no need for you to torture yourself!!!!

I think you are being much too hard on yourself.  Relax, give your body time to go back to normal.
