How long for a m/c to end

by jamierai, Jan 15, 2007 12:00AM
From the time that the symptoms start, how long does it take until you're done bleeding/cramping?

sorry u are going through this...  my baby died and it took a week to start miscarrying properly... one night (all night) i had contractions and then passed everything out in just one night... i had no cramping after that..just heavy bleeding for about a week...  then stopped for about 2 weeks then bled again for a few days..think it took a couple of months for everything to calm down and get back to normal xxxxxxx

Sorry, more info.  I was ~7w when the pregnancy stopped progressing.  This is 3 weeks later, I never m/c naturally, so they tried to do a D&E, which failed b/c my cervix wouldn't dilate, but, I think brought on a natural m/c.  I've been cramping since Friday afternoon, getting nearly unbearable last night, but bleeding not very heavy.

I am going for a u/s Wed. to see how much tissue is left.  I do not want to do another d&E Friday if I don't absolutely have to, but the pain is getting to be a lot for me to handle for too much longer.

I'm also very sorry you're having to go through a difficult time. I think it's different for each of us and also depending on how far along you were. My last m/c I had heavy bleeding for a couple of days, then light for almost two weeks, then very heavy cramping and bleeding for 4 days, then spotting for about two months...even after my AF got back on track. But I was 11 weeks. Take care, you're in my prayers!

Gosh I'm so sorry & I know the pain can be horrible, and probably worse if you're not passing much. Are you feeling a lot of nausea? I ask because I felt really sick when the pain was at it's worst and that's when I passed it all. I hope you can m/c naturally and not have to go through the d&e again. I'll be thinking about you and please keep us posted.

I'm not nauseous.  The cramping was so severe for the last 24-48 hrs. that I thought I could not bear it.  It's lessened just slightly.  I'm having a level 2 u/s Wednesday.  Please please pray for me that I've gotten most of the tissue out by then.

Oh, I also meant to ask, not everyone bleeds profusely right?  The doc said something about possibly just absorbing the pg too?  Can someone tell me what that means?

Hi jamierai, just wondering how you're doing this morning. It's true that not all m/c lead to profuse bleeding. With my first one it was just like a period and lasted only three or four days, I was 6wks3days. With my second, I was 7wks3days, I had a quite a bit of cramping and passed some tissue but did not bleed profusely, my doc. said it was a missed m/c so recommended d&c. Had I waited a few weeks I most likely could have passed everything. Yes I have heard of our bodies absorbing pg and also blood but I really don't know more than that. I pray you get good news at your u/s tomorrow. Take care and keep us posted!

Thank you so much for asking!  How thoughtful you are!
I'm feeling much, much better today.  Still bleeding, but the horrendously painful cramps are lessening.  As an aside, Advil works much, much better than Darvocet!

The u/s is tomorrow.  Originally they told me I was 6w6d from the u/s but I should have been 9w5d, so, it was a missed m/c.  It seems like I bled about as much as you did w/your 6w3d.

I will keep you posted after tomorrow's u/s.  My doc appt is Thursday, and I will find out what he/they think then.

I'm glad you're feeling better! Hopefully that means you're over the worst of it. Wishing you the best for tomorrow and Thur.

Bleeding can be a sign of miscarriage but it can also mean something else. Have you taken a pregnancy test? Your doctor will want to see you if you are pregnant and bleeding. Bleeding happens with a lot of pregnancies, some end in miscarriage and some carry through and have healthy babies so don't panic, just get to your ob/gyn or the emergency room as soon as possible. Please take care and let us know when you find out what is going on, okay!?
