How to find a good pediatrician.

How to find a good pediatrician.

I was wondering how long before your baby's birth you found a pediatrician and how did you start the process? I am totally clueless as to what to do. Specially that we are going to have our son circumcised, I was told that we need to find one very soon. Does the pediatrician have to be working for the same hospital that you are gving birth in order to do the circumcision? Plz give me some advice on what to look for and what to avoid in a pediatrician. Thanks.

I'm not sure about Florida, but my OB gave me a list of pediatricians that are affiliated w/ my hospital...I also went into labor before ever choosing one so find one now!!!  I hated the pediatrican I first had so we stwitched.  For my next baby I plan to interview them first.

I thought they do it at the hospital (circumcision) and it doesn't have to be the ped.  I might be wrong.  I interviewed the pediatrician for DD and he came highly recommended.  We ended up leaving him and going with another one b/c of many things we disliked in the first one.  Don't feel bad if you don't like the one you'll have at first.  I felt terrible switching but YOU need to be comfortable with him/her.  Your ob/gyn can recommend a ped or two and you can go from there.  Like I said, you might have to change a few times before you find the one you're happy with.

I got a list from my insurance and OB, interviewed at least 4.  I found one close to where I live (my primary ped) and then I found one that had rights to the hospital I was delivering at.  You dont have to find one for the hospital, they usually have one there you can use.  But they are the ones doing the circumcision.  I found them about 5 weeks before his due date.

I got a list from my OB/GYN.  The way I understand it, some ob/gyn do the circ but some do not.  Just depends.

I think if the pediatrician you choose does not round at the hospital you are giving birth at, a rounding doctor there will perform the first checkup and the circumcision while the baby is still in the hospital.  They should then talk to you about when to bring your baby in to the ped. you chose.

I didnt choose one until he was a day old. His peditrician came in and looked at him and I fell in love! LOL He is awesome!! As for the circ. My ob did my sons when he was a day old.
