How to get a little one to sleep in crib?

How to get a little one to sleep in crib?

How can I get a newborn to sleep in the crib? I have an 11 day old daughter who falls asleep on my chest being burped after feeding her.  I go to put her in her crib and with in 10 minutes she wakes up crying. I pick her up and she stops...  Sometimes she'll burp and go to sleep but mostly she just stops crying when I pick her up. As soon as she falls asleep or starts to closer her eyes I'll put her down.  Right now she's in her crib and asleep but is there anything I can do or others have done to help make the transition more successful from my shoulder to her crib?

Any thoughts or tips are appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

You are doing everything right....the more you put her in the crib the better, especially if she will go down while she is still semi-awake. Swaddling also really helps- she probably likes the comfort of feeling close to you. If you swaddle her before you feed her, then burp her and put her down already swaddled, she won't notice as much that you are not there. My kids always liked "white noise" too (which also helped with the transition to the crib).
As anything, though, do what works and helps you sleep the most. I have had some excellent crib-sleepers, others who preferred the swing and still others who absolutely had to have the bassinet.

Congratulations on your baby girl!!
She wakes up b'cos she feels the difference in warmth when you try to put her in the crip. I would try swaddling her before you do the feed, burp routine. Then wait for a few minutes after she goes into a deep sleep and put her in the crip. with the blanket around her she won't feel the temperature difference much.
I have heard warm Crib sheets work wonders, but with a new born I don't know how practical that would be as I was lucky if I had a chance to have a proper meal let alone warm up crib sheets when my son was 11days old.
Like the what "waiting" mentioned on the above post, every baby is different. My 3month old son would not get a solid sleep unless I am right there with him. Just to avoid him being super cranky with proper sleep I stay with him for about 2hrs during the day. But he sleeps through the night.. (I breast feed him in his sleep)..
Good luck!!

One of the things that helped me was putting him down drowsy, then I just sit and rub his back and comfort and reassure him until he falls asleep.  I think this helped make his crib a "safe place" for him. He now has no problem with it at all.  I also used swaddling until 3 months and it really did help.  The others are right though, every baby is different.  My son is now almost 7 months and still not sleeping through the night...it just depends on the baby.  Good luck and congrats on your little one!!

The others provided great advice- swaddling and white noise can help soothe a lot. Also, you may want to try a simple sleep positioned that hugs her sides. They are very cheap, under $10, but helped my first feel secure.

Thanks for all the feedback.  With my son who is now 2, we swaddled him until he was 9 months old.  He was hardly in his crib (except overnight) for the first several months of his life.  We were hoping to have different luck with baby number 2 as we can't hold her all the time b/c we've got an active toddler to chase after!  I've got her swaddled right now so hopefully that'll help. It seems that she'll cluster feed and then get knocked out and sleep in her crib.  I can't swaddle her when I feed her b/c as it is she falls asleep while I'm feeding her - I have to strip her down and keep her stimulated to get through a feeding!
