How useful are nursing pads?

Hi- not there yet, but frantically trying to get everything ready. I'm aware that you can leak because of breastfeeding, but are those pads a regular thing or what? (the ones I've seen are a little expensive.) If so, what kind are best?

you definitly need them, you'll be sleeping with a bra and pads for a while too (and will probably have to change them during the night)
I can't remember the one I used but they wear kind of big (they were cheaper than the gerber ones) I think playtex (not sure).
Stack up on those, I didn't and regreted it after my milk came in, I had to stuff my bra with toilet paper the first night and it was messy!

You'll need them.... but what a great idea by cutting the maxi pads in half. I'm going to do that this time around and save the $$.

There's nothing in the pantyliners that would be toxic in any way to the baby is there?

What works, too is those nail polish remover pads - not the cotton balls but the circular ones. Roughly the same size as the nursing pads. However, they don`t have any good fit - so you may find the pad on your collar bone rather than where it belongs...

I used pantyliners like mgi.  They're really cheap,  you can get like 50 in a box for almost nothing,  and cut them in half and stick them to the inside of your bra.

It's a misery to be somewhere and some crying baby is there,  and wham,  out it comes!

Best wishes.  Motherhood is fun,  really.  ;D

wouldn't that kind of be obvious through a shirt?

You will definitely need them.  I used the unsented pantyliners with my first two sons.  It worked great.  I cut them in half and stuck them to the inside of my bra.  They worked great!  They weren't huge and bulky and they didn't move around. Also, you can buy cloth nursing pads.  They are made out of cotton material like clothe diapers.  They are circular in shape.  They work good too and are washable, but they do move around a bit.  I think they allow a little more oxygen to the nipples.  I'm glad your nursing.

I never leaked a whole lot after the first two week with both kids.  I only went through one pack.  I also had some cloth ones.  I liked them for the stay at home times as they have no adhesive and can wander
