Husband being deployed to Iraq

Husband being deployed to Iraq

I'm 41 years old and have been ttc for a little over a year and 1/2.  I've had two miscarriages.  Now, I just found out that my dh is being deployed in January again to Iraq.  (He's been in the Reserves for 18 years with 2 years to go before he can retire and he was deployed to Iraq for a year in 2004).  I'm going to see a RE for testing next cycle.  Af should be here if I'm not pg by July 9th.  Do any of you have any advice on sperm storage or whatever?  I just mostly wanted to vent.  Sigh, a year is a lifetime when you're 41 and ttc.

The RE should be able to give you advice about storing his sperm.  I wish you both all the best.

I just wanted to say good luck.  It must be so hard on both of you.  I hate it when my dh is gone at night to work, never mind for a year.  I hope you are able to conceive soon.

I really don't have a answer about the sperm storage except ask the RE. I just wanted to say I know how frustrating deployment is. I'm almost 27wks pregnant and my DH is in afghanistan right now. These are not fun times for me.

I'm not sure what area you live in, but my fertility specialist could give you some connections on storing the sperm.  They have been such a great help through our whole IVF ordeal!!!!  Good luck and I hope all goes well.

I totally understand your feelings about your husband being deployed.  My husband deploys for 2-4 months every 4 months.  He is home 1-2 months and then out again.  It has been torture ttc because we only ever have 1-2 months before he is gone again.  We have been going to an RE and I have had an IUI done twice.  Luckily, we found that he can store his sperm quite easily at the clinic, so we won't have to put everything on hold while he is gone.  I would ask to be referred to your military infertility clinic-much cheaper, and they should be able to tell you where to go to have his sperm frozen.  Good luck and special prayers for your husband's safety while he is gone.

Thank you all.
Darkestlight, I also worry that if I do get pg before Tony is deployed, I'll have the baby while he is in Iraq.  The baby would just about be walking before Tony got home.  How long is your husband's deployment?  I'd like to talk to you about it further, if you feel up to it.  If you do, my e-mail address is ***@****.
Kelly, I live in Illinois.  Supposedly the fertility center I'm going to go to here is pretty well known so hopefully, they can come up with something.  It scares me even more if I don't get pg before my dh (Tony) is deployed cuz my chances of conceiving when he returns will the much less.

just wanted to wish you both luck on this deployment...im also a military wife and dh is deployed right now. im 29wks pregnant and he's due back in july...next year. i would also say go to your nearest military clinic and talk to them. i know they do collect sperm samples when soldiers are being deployed. best of luck on getting pregnant.
