Hydronephrosis

by Beaver1975, Dec 03, 2003 12:00AM
Our recent ultrasound showed that our baby has bilateral hydronephrosis.  Is this something that we should be worried about?  I've also heard that this diagnosis increases the baby's chances of having Down Syndrome.  Should we be concerned?  Our OBGYN says not to worry, but sometimes that's easier said than done.  Any comments would be helpful.  Thanks.

hi, i actually just found out yesterday that i have that, but it's mild. did the doctor say if is mild or severe? because i have been doing some research on the 'net and it's says that when babies r born with this that it usually resolves on it's own within the first year. so don't worry, until the doctor starts to worry. it could just be nothing.

Both me and my husband have hydronophrosis, and our first child was diagnosed with it in utero.  Hers was refluxing, but she is fine, and has never had to have treatment for it.  It resolved itself within the first year of her life (she is 2 now.)  I have never heard of it increasing the chances of Down's.

I would say don't worry too much about it umless it is very severe, and/or your doctor is telling you to worry about it.
