Hyperstimulation after IVF?? Help

Hyperstimulation after IVF?? Help

After having my egg retrieval on Tuesday (22 eggs), I had a rough week and ended up in the ER with severe pain. I hyperstimulated.  I went in on Friday to see if we could do a 3 day transfer and there was too much fluid in abdomen and ovaries too large.  Went back yesterday for a possible 5 day transfer.  I was told that we could transfer one embryo but could have significant hyperstimulation for about 4 weeks since fluid and ovary size were the same as Friday.  This week has been miserable- couldn't work or do anything.  Also could put me at risk. I left feeling so defeated and disappointed...  We froze the one embryo and they are watching three more.  This is our 2nd cycle - last time was a piece of cake.  Transferred 3 embryos and got preg but m/c early.  We will wait for my body to recover and will transfer next month.  I feel like my chances have diminished greatly b/c of freezing the embryo.  I pray that some of the other embryos make it b/c I don't think I will try IVF again.  Has anyone had the same experience?  I know it is rare to hyperstimulate and I don't fall into any of the profiles for someone that could.  Feeling lonely and disappointed..  It is hard to understand that out of the 18 embryos - 1 was great and 3 were borderline.

Hi, I am very sorry that they couldn't do the transfer.  It is very hard, I know because I have gone through 1 Fresh IVF (failed), 3 FET (2nd FET got pregnant with Identicle Twin girls but lost my girls at 6 months of pregnancy), I just went through my last FET on 4/28 and at 5/12 I got a positive HCG but 4 days later my numbers droped and I had a bio-chemical pregnancy.  Me and DH haven't gave up on the idea of having live childrens.  I got pregnant with Frozen embryo, so to me I got lucky with a Frozen embie.  Remember that you only need one to get pregnant.  I remember I was so happy that we were able to get 12 embryos, and now I have to start over.  Don't worry yourself, God will bless you with a child.

Also, if you read below or in the archives, you might come across the second half of 1twinmom's story.  After her first kids, she had ONE frozen embie put in, and not only did it take but it split, and now she is expecting identical twins.  So it does happen!!! Good luck and I think your move to wait for ovarian healing is very smart.  Annie

Hi annie!

Hi tall chic! Annie's right. We did a FET of our last remaining embryo and I'm 20 weeks preg. with identical twin girls. The clinic we went to says they have had a lot of pregnancies using frozen emryos. I hope it works for you. Sorry to hear about the hyperstimulation. I was always worried about that but fortunatley it never happened. Think good thoughts next month and let us know what happens.

Thank you for giving me hope!!!  I did find out today that they were able to freeze 5 embryos (when I left yesterday, they were freezing only one and watching the rest).  Luckily, my pain is under control and am starting to feel more like myself.  Hyperstimulation stinks!!!  I guess I didn't do enough research b/c I had no idea it was a possibility.  It is great that one embryo resulted in twin girls!!!  I will say a prayer for you and your little ones tonite!!!  I am glad I found this sight.  None of my friends have been through this.  Most were lucky enough to conceive on the first try.  Although they are supportive, it is not the same as people who have lived it.  So a million thanks!!

Who knew getting pregnant would be such a project!!!  All those years in college popping birth control pills for nothing!!!  Will keep you posted!

Debbie,

I hear you on the pills in college.  If I had known how long conception would take, I would NEVER have bothered with contraception!

Silvee,

I am so sorry for the struggles you have had- especially losing your girls at 6 months.  I can't imagine...  I know God will bless you too.  This will be a good year and next summer we will be pushing baby strollers!

Don't forget to keep us posted when they do the transfer and when you are on your 2ww.  This is an amazing site.  I found iten I was pregnant with my girls and found it again when I was on my 2ww and it really helped.  Is conforting to know that there are so many women out there that know what you are going through and can really give you so much support.  Sending a lot of babydust your way... Take good care of you and I will say a prayer for you and your husband..
