Hi Everyone! The last time I was in to see my OBGYN she mentioned she would like to do a hysterosalpingogram on me to make sure my fallopian tubes are open and then put me on Clomid. My question is...I was pregnant last August, so obviously my fallopian tubes were open then (or at least one of them), so is this test really necessary? Could having a miscarriage do something to my fallopian tubes? I am willing to do everything and anything it takes to get pregnant, but I don't want to do things that are not necessary. My OB doctor said she does this test on everyone who is having trouble getting pregnant.
K - I've had 2 miscarraiges and neither time did they say something about my tubes. I would ask her if there is something making her think she needs to do this. Or he, if your OB is a man. The fact that you got pregnant shows that you were not blockedBlocked tear duct. I know they have told me that anytime they have to go in there, that you can have a lot of scar tissue. But I'm not sure why she would be wanting to. Ask a lot of questions, if your unsure as what to do!!!!
I am with you nanakay. My sister-in-law was put through it all and most of it was not necessary. I also wonder about testing before the Clomid. Why not do some blood work and go on the Clomid and just see if it works??? I had b/w done and an u/s and then my doctor put me on 50mg of Clomid. I did not have to have alot of excessive tests done to try Clomid.
I had Progesterone, Prolactin, TSH, and T4 levels drawn. All were normal except the Progesterone showed I did not ovulate last cycle. My cycles have been 40-66 days long since my miscarriage and I've done temp charts also that show no spike, so this is why I believe I am anovulatory. I really have no reason to believe that their is anything wrong with my DH's sperm, the evidence is strong that I'm the problem. I've read that Clomid is fairly inexpensive, so I would like to try that before testing my DH's sperm. I'm just not too sure about the need for the dye test. I'll ask my OBGYN more questions about it. Thanks for your input!
I am taking the generic of Clomid and I paid $35.00 for a two month's supply. Definately cheaper than alot of the testing you could have done! :) Keep us posted!
I would get the test done if I were you. There could be something wrong. If your cycles are that long and there is no spike in temp. both your tubes could be blocked, and even if you did take Clomid the egg wouldn't be able to get through to your uterus and the sperm couldn't get through to the egg. The most important thing the test would do is put your mind to rest. I got the test done and found out one of my tubes was blocked and so I was fertile every other month.
I am really questioning why your doctor would recommend this test for you if you were already pregnant last Aug. I had this test done in 99 (not a glorious test. I prepared for it with Motrin). It was recommended to me because we had been trying for roughly 10 years to no avail. My tubes were fine and my husband was fine. I would also say to question your doctor about what he/she suspects.
I understand your comments, but one thing that bothers me is that you say you were only fertile every other month. Your ovaries do not alternate Oing. You actually may O 3 months on one side and then 1 month on the other. If you have one ovary it may ovulate every month. I believe that Emma1 ovulated pretty much every month except when she had a cyst form and she only has one ovary. She is now preggo! I am not sure I can agree with the dye test, because I do know it can be painful and may not be necessary at this time. She may just want to consider the Clomid for a month or two. The success rate is 75% within the first 3 months, so she should be preggo in that time frame and if not maybe it is time for more extensive testing. Just my 2 cents. :)
my question for you is have they done a seaman analysis on your dh?
just because you got pg on your own the first time doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with him.
if they haven't i would request that one be done. the test on him is way easier than all the tests they run on you.
good luck
