I NEED to stop eating this...

I'm almost 11 weeks pregnant and I cannot STAND looking at chicken/meat.  It's so bad that even if I see the commercial on TV (chicken strips, etc), I either change the channel or mute it until the commercial's over (yep, it's THAT bad).  The ONLY way I can eat chicken if I get it at chinese take out (go figure).  This is my second chicken with mixed veggies and white rice lunch within a week's time.  I seriously need to stop eating it b/c I know it can't be good for my little one.  Any suggestions on how to stop this addiction??  I boiled some chicken breast last night for DD and tried a little.  Ok, ok, I forced myself to eat it (sigh).  HELP!!

So is your addiction Chinese Food?
I had the whole 'can't stand chicken/meat' phase as well...even the thought that it was in my fridge made me get sick...
It did pass...or get MUCH better at least....i can have it every now and then...
I know it's good for our babies to eat it...but you can find protein in other foods as well.

Have you tried having your DD make the chicken for you? Maybe he can make chicken/veggies/rice for you one night...this way you know it is much healthier than all the sodium in Chinese Food....

Good luck...

i didn't eat meat until 15 weeks or so. couldn't stand the sight/thought of it. i think the chinese is worse for you than the little, primarily due to the sodium. make sure the place doesn't use msg.

I didn't eat meat for more than 11 years. in fact I didn't start eating it again until I was pregnant with my middle son. I would be cautious about the chinese food as oftentimes it contains MSG as well as the sodium mentioned above.

Don't fret if you don't get over it, I made it through my pg and nursing for 14 mos with Jonathan vegan style ; ) There are plenty of alternative protein sources.

Thank you everyone for your replies.  The place that I take the food from states clearly in their menu that their food does not contain MSG (do I trust that??? hmmm).  Sodium, on the other hand, they have plenty of.  Grrr...
Andi-I would love to eat salads and fruits all day long but I my stomach growls and I feel like I'm starving.  What did you eat on your vegan diet?

No, I don't really eat chinese food that much.  In fact, before pregnancy, I'd have it once a month or even two months.  I'm very indifferent to it but that's the only way I can eat my chicken now.

My favorite thing to eat was beans and rice, hummus on pita is a wonderful snack, pasta, etc. You can make a lot of food from vegan proteins taste very close to their meat counterparts. Boca burgers were also a fav of mine. Put some soy cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion on it and it is very tasty!!

I nderstand how just fruit and veggies leaves you hungrier than before you started to eat! I really need some carbs or protein to fill me up.

I try to eat healthy. Notice the key word in that last sentence is TRY! But with my 3rd pregnancy all i wanted was chinese food and fried chicken .I dont even like chicken. Never have, but had to have it then. But my DR said that as long as im eating healthy 5 days out of the week, that 2 days a week wouldnt hurt me or the baby. So for 2 days a week I was in heaven!

The thing is that I can't eat anything BUT fruits and veggies.  I have to force myself to eat fish/chicken/meat.  I was the same way with my first pregnancy.  (sigh)  Can't wait to be able to eat again.

I have such a bad feeling towards chicken during pregnancy, that I usually end up eating almost no meat during the first two trimesters.  Not even lunch meat.  Just the smell of mixed foods in the frig makes me not eat anything in it.  Eat the chinese, in moderation....you'll be fine.  Drink plenty of water to combat the extra sodium intake.
