I have a question for mommies of boys

Every time DS pees, he wets everything, onesie, pants, etc.  I don't understand why the diaper's leaking so badly.  It's not my first child and I do know how to put on a diaper properly.  It is on a bigger side for him but I make sure it's snug.  I also make sure to change him frequently.  The diaper is not full (in fact, it's barely full) but he wets everything every time he pees.  What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried a smaller diaper? The best thing is to use the smallest diaper that fits him. And what brand do you use? I use both huggies and pampers on Reilly (he is a month old today..YAY) and like them both. I noticed that huggies tend to be a little bigger than pampers of the same size. Reilly is wearing #1 pampers right now. How ols is your ds and what size does he wear? how often do you change him? I don't let Reilly go without a change for more than 2 hours.

Are you pointing his tallywhacker down when you put the new diaper on? I can always tell when my stepdaughter has changed ds's diaper (as opposed to my dh doing it), because he will pee right out of the top. She never remembers to point his penis down.

Same advice as the other ladies I had to try different brands to finally get one that would not "leak" lol.

size of diaper and pointing down the "woohoodilly", lol.....if the diapers are too small or too big, my boys always leaker out of them.....and pointing it downward is VERY important.  I would have one hand on each side of the diaper and have my index finger on the penis to make sure it stayed down when the diaper closed......VERY IMPORTANT for boys......

I had that same problem with Huggies - they suck on boys!!  Pampers swaddlers are the only diapers that do NOT leak on my boys.  I don't worry about his "woohoodilly" and have never had a problem.  I just think Huggies don't really fit right on boys.  Just my personal observation.  They are 2 months old now and in a size 1.  Good luck.

kellytexas- huggies are the only diapers I could use with my boys...everything else would leak.  I never did try the pampers swaddlers though, maybe I will give them a try next time around!!!

huggies are the only brand i use with my son also. for some reason, i just don't have luck with pampers or any other brand. i agree that it is also important to make sure the diaper fits properly and point the "hoo hoo" down :o)

I use the Huggies too...Huggies Supreme, I think. Dylan will soak thru Pampers at night.

i hated huggies on ds and stuck with pampers...i make sure the elastic? around the legs that the little flap around it isnt tucked inside, that helped i found...but ds would have one pee and he was soaked with huggies so i discontinued the use:)im a pampers momma lol

DS is 12 days old and he's still tiny so I used Pampers preemie on him and now that I ran out of those, I just started using Pampers newborn.  I tried Huggies newborn and they were too big for him.  He was born 6.12 lbs so I can still use preemie (they go up to 7 lbs) only I don't have those anymore and I think even those would leak.  Maybe I need to pay more attention to his "pee pee", meaning, which direction it's pointing when I'm putting on the diaper.  I'll see if that helps.  Thanks, ladies.

With both of my sons we use the Pampers Swaddlers.  The only time we have leakage is right before we need to upgrade to the next size.  My youngest ds is now 3 wks old and we had to upgrade to size 1 (instead of Newborn size), although the NB size was up to 10 lbs and he hadn't quite reached that, we switched to the size 1 which is 8-14lbs.  Often the diaper sizes overlap, so whenever we have a leak or a blow-out, we always move on up to the next and the problem has gone away.  Also, we center the diaper a little more towards the rear when baby is young enough to have to sleep on his back, since the pee obviously follows gravity's pull.

When ds outgrows the "Swaddlers" brand, then we always move on to Huggies.  I never liked the Huggies on newborns as they didn't seem to work as well, but seem to be fine for bigger bums! :)  (Not to mention that Costco sells Huggies- not Pampers- so we always get a great deal on their value packs.)

Funny, I never knew about the aiming of the wee-wee before reading the above responses!  I guess I've always just lucked out with my boys having their wee-wees already facing south! LOL  (That, and my youngest's wee-wee is usually a "hiding turtle", if you know what I mean! :))  I'll have to start taking more notice of which direction theirs is pointing now that I've heard it's an issue!

ds was born 6lbs 15 oz and went down to 6lbs 9 oz when we brought him home the 2 days later in the am..since i had him at 1146pm and he was in newborns...so maybe just the direction?

Let's see we had tallywhacker, woohoodilly, pee pee and hoo hoo.  I don't really have anymore names but my son wet everything, all the time.  It didn't matter if it was pointed down, up, to the side, he was wetting his clothes.  He eventually grew out of that.  I'm not sure if it was the diapers, he was 9lbs 2 oz and in pampers swaddlers #1.

I used White Cloud diapers--loved them--though I do remeber that a few times I would change my son he would be dry and then put the clothes back on and he would have peed through the side--I still don't know how he did that....I did not put his penis down just left it where it was----though both of my boys had hydroceles and I did not want to mess around that area too much.,

My youngest son has done the same thing i couldn't figure it out for the life of me i tried different dipper brands and sizes he wouldn't even get the dipper wet untill i figured out he was pointing his little thingy off to the side so now every time i change his dipper i make sure that it is pointing straight down into the dipper

I was just thinking of this a while ago--that I wanted to post about this same thing! My little boy is 6 months and has a leaking accident at least once a day! Like someone else said--sometimes the diaper even feels dry but the clothes are wet. So it must be aiming out the side.
I've tried Luvs, they have been the worst, and Swaddlers which seem to be somewhat better. I tried Costcos brand with the kangaroos on them and HATED them. They were the WORST. I guess I will try Huggies.

Like the others have said, put the weenis in the down position and it will make a BIG difference.

I use Pampers Swaddlers with my son as well. I love them. We have used Huggies some too but when he was in the Huggies GentleCare Newborn he would pee right out the top of them everytime. It didn't matter which way it was pointed. As soon as we moved him from a newborn to a size 1 he stopped it all together. He is in a size 2 now and still now accidents with pee.... now he has pooped out the back of his diapers a tine or two! LOL! Good Luck! My sister said that she couldn't use anything but LUVS with her son cause he peed out the top of all of them!~

My son is the same way, he is 10mnths now but he has ALWAYS leaked since birth. Pee and poo. I literally tried EVERY BRAND diapers from name brand to store brand. I just kinda learned to live with the mess unfortunately. I wish I knew how to fix the problem myself lol
