I know that this question was just asked but...

This is another hair coloring question.  I am almost 9 weeks pregnant and I'm going to a wedding in less than two weeks.  I look terrible and I NEED to color my hair.  I know that it's safer to wait until the first trimester is over but I kind of can't.  Do I just go ahead and color it?

My hair dresser told me that high lights are pretty safe, but that they would just keep it away from my scalp as much as possible... so...  mine didn't look terrible, so I just let mine go...  if you do decide to do it, I would make sure your hair dresser knows you are pg and is careful!

I heard the same thing as tator.  My hair dresser said that highlights don't touch the scalp...

I have a friend who does hair and she said that as long as you tell the hair dresser that you're pregnant there shouldn't be any problems. I guess they have a special kind of hair dye that isn't as harsh on your hair that they use for pregnant people. Another reason to tell them is because of hormones coloring your hair (by yourself or not telling them) can cause it to turn funny colors... like pink when you wanted red for instance.

Make sure you go to a salon and get it done, don't do it yourself. They use better chemicals.

As many girls have said b4....try to go with highlights...as long as the dye doesn't touch the scalp...you'll be fine...

i dyed my hair myself when i was pregnant with my 1st. instead of blonde it turned out strawberry red. im a natural blonde to begin with, and was only going a few shades lighter. so i agree with everyone else dont do it at home!

Does it just damage your hair or does it do other things aswell?

I had my hair highlighted 2 x in my first trimester (tisk tisk) everything was fine :) I think they are worried about bleach the most...

my doctor said after the first trimester in a very well ventilated room but not before. the chemicals in hair dye are harsh for your hair and the inhaled aspect as well. not just bleach either. most hair dye has ammonia in it.

Thanks for all your comments.  I do have highlights right now but I have so much gray hair that highlights alone won't cover it.  I have the dr's appt this friday so I guess that's the question I'm asking him.  I'm sure there are hair coloring products that are safer but don't last as long (I believe the ones without the ammonia).

right, the semi or temporary ones should be just fine. i find myself having to touch up to undo the fading so often anyways, that the semi permanent ones work just the same for me

As long as you tell them you are preg. you will be fine but be sure to tell them b/c your body is hotter than normal and that affects the dye/bleach. I went to beauty school and one of my classmates was preg. and she was fine being around the dye/bleach. Just make sure it is a well ventilated salon.

Thanks, that's what I thought.  I don't really care if the color doesn't last long as long as I'm not doing any damage to the little one.
