I thought it was just yeast / Important heads-up

I had a super awful yeast infection that was driving me crazy, so when I saw my Dr. on 8/31, I had him look at it, and he verified it was yeast, and gave me an Rx for Gynazole. He told me to put Monistat cream on the outside, and I did, and was feeling much better in a few days. Then I sort of hit a plateau, and didn't finish getting better. By Friday 9/15 I was really uncomfortable again, so I called the Dr.'s office, and they told me to just go buy OTC Monistat. I didn't agree with that, so I asked to talk to a nurse. Once she realized that I had just been treated 2 weeks, ago, she said I could come in Mon. and have the midwife look at it. So, I suffered through the weekend, and went in yesterday. The midwife looked inside, and said it didn't look that bad as far as yeast, and then took a swab for a slide. She came back and told me that the yeast was minimal, and that my problem was now Bacterial Vaginosis. I got an Rx for a foul tasting antibiotic called Flagyl, and some cream that works way better for the irritation than Monistat.
The surprise to me was when I came home and looked up "Bacterial Vaginosis in Pregnancy". It can cause preterm labor, and pregnancy complications if left untreated. I am so glad that I did not just assume that I could take care of it myself, and keep treating with Monistat like they first said. The midwife said I did exactly the right thing by not listening to them over the phone, and that it's always better to come in if it seems like a returning yeast infection. Please don't try to self-diagnose/treat. It is so much safer to go to your Dr.

Exact thing happened to me in my last pregnancy. I had a yeast inf that turned into a bacterial infection after the yeast meds. That is pretty common. The yeast inf gets rid of too much yeast and causes the bacteria to grow.

That is good info to pass along to others.

I know this is a pregnancy forum, but you seem to know more than any other places----

I had suspected chest infection and was put on amoxicillin for 5 days. A few days after, I thought I had developed vaginitis (possibly for taking antibiotics), and put on cream. It didn't work. I then bought a yeast infection kit, the Ph test which was included said my Ph balance down there was normal. I inserted the once-only ovule anyway. After the 3-5 days needed to clear up, it was still itching. I went to the doctor, she took a sample and gave me a prescription for a once-only yeast infection pill. I took that, though after the sample came back she said it was all clear.

I am still itching!!!
What is going on?
The itch is outside, and can go from mild to severe, and can go from one spot to all over that area all the way to my bum (sorry)..... I don't know what to do.

Love to all
