Hi. I had an IUD for about 6 months -- I had it removed b/c it caused me to bleed so heavily (through a pad every hour and had a couple of accidents). My doc said it could be that way for a couple of months, but by month 6 I'd had enough.
The removal was a piece of cake -- just continued with my regularRegular insulin cycle and haven't had any problems since.
Don't know how long you've had yours -- or if it makes a difference.
I had my Mirena IUD removed in August. It was not painful at all, less uncomfortable than a pap smear. The only bad part was that I had lots of spotting for the first 2 months. I am just now starting to get regular cycles.
It certainly didn't hurt as much as putting it in! But in my case too (Mirena) because of residual hormonal effects, had to wait a while to get a period (they had stopped, like 30% of all women on Mirena). Then had 2 m/c's in a row, can't help but think there was a connection between messing with my hormones with the IUD or the lining and those m/c's--had had 2 pregnancies no problems before. I could never find studies either that linked IUD with post-IUD success at carrying pregnancies--don't think they want to know. Good luck!
They say that with the Mirena you can be pregnant immediately upon removal. You have the same chance at getting pregnant within one year as a woman who hasn't been on birth control 8/10. But I would think you would want to wait at least one cycle since Mirena suppresses the lining from building up.
Thanks to everyone! I was pretty nervous about getting it out, but feel so much better now! I am sick of being on artificial hormones - they make me feel crazy sometimes. Certainly NOT trying to have another baby (2 in 18 months a couple of years ago!), so we are going to attempt a barrier method instead. No more "drugs" for this girl! Thanks again, you were all very helpful!
I had to have my Mirena Surgically removed because my GYN couldn't find the string. I develop a an infection a few days after the surgery because It was in for 5 years and 4 months when it was removed. Now I think I may be pregnant, but can't tell because I too haven't had a cycle since the IUD insert 5 years ago. I'm concerned my body is so out of whack that I may be at high risk for a M/C. I can't find any information in terms of how long the hormone stays in your body after the removal. Or case studies if IUD are linked to m/c once removed. Any advise from anyone would be great.
