IUI - Should I?

by stillhopeful, Mar 16, 2004 12:00AM
I went for an ultrasound yesterday after being on 100mg of clomid day 3 - 9.   I was very discouraged with the results.  I had several follicles but only one mature one that measured 21.  What really upset me is my lining only measured 5 and they said they like to see 10.  I am 40 and don't have much time to waste but do you think that I should even bother with an IUI this month?  I just don't want to throw $300 away.

stillhopeful,

I think that follicle size sounds great. As for the lining, can't your doctor get you started on progestrone to increase the lining? What did your doctor say?  I am 40 too and I think you should go for the IUI.  That's how I got pregnant in January.  Best wishes and baby dust to you.  Keep us all posted.

I am going to talk to the nurse today.  I have the trigger shot planned. That is kind of what bothers me.  The nurse didn't say anything except my lining was thin and they like to see it at a 10.  Did you use Clomid?

I used clomid twice, but that was with my ob/gyn.  I tried clomid once more with my RE then we moved onto injectables becasue of my age.  Try to talk to the doctor if you can.  I know how they operate, letting the nurses handle everything, but maybe you can get thru to him.  With the injectables I used HCG trigger shot too.  I think level 10 lining is good but yours can be increased with supplements.  When are you suppose to use the trigger shot?  Godo luck with your decision.

Which injectibles did you use?  I want to more onto to injectibles if this cycle doesn't work.  I know they are more aggressive and at my age I don't want to be wasting any time.  I am hoping we can afford them because my insurance company doesn't pay for clomid so I doubt they'll pay for any other injectibles.  Well, I'm on my way to get my trigger shot!

Yea,  I am so glad you decided to go ahead and do the trigger shot.  I will pray for you.  I did pergonal (I think the spelling).  It worked wonders.  Every month I had at least 6  follicles that ovulated.  I did three rounds and got bfp my third try.  My insurance covered everything.  It became a mandate in NY in September and that is when I started injectibles and IUI's.  It kind of worked out like a dream for me.  Thank goddness it was covered becasue my husbands vas reversal cost over 9 grand.  We were pretty strapped at that point.  I don't think my husband wanted to invest much more money.  I am thankful for my blessings and I hope you will get your too.  Please keep us posted.

Wow, 9 grand.  That is amazing!!!  That is so great that your insurance covers your infertility treatments.  Mine only covers diagnose but not treatment.  I am still happy to have that.  So far we can swing the extra $300 - $400 a month on IUI and meds.  I talked to my doctor about the injectibles but she said she wanted to give clomid a chance so if the IUI fails we are moving onto 150 mg of clomid and estrogen to help with the thin lining.   Thanks for the prayers.  I can use all I can get.  Tomorrow I will be officially in the 2WW.
