I'm pregnant, but now what do I do????

Hi everyone, I recently missed my period so I took a hpt and it was positive. I'm 19 and I moved about 9 months ago from my home town. I haven't established doctors, dentist, any of that stuff yet I know I should have by now, but I don't have insurance. I can't get insurance from my job till I have been there at least a year. So, now that I am pregnant, what exactly do I need to do. What type of dr do I need to go to and how do I know that they are good enough? What should I do about the insurance situation. I know all of this can get pretty expensive. If anyone could help in any way I would be grateful. I am a little nervous and scared because I have no idea what I am doing... Thanks : )

Whether or not your employer's insurance kicks in after a year, it is possible for a person with no pre-existing conditions to buy health insurance with their own money.  In other words, so what if your insurance doesn't kick in at that employer's as a benefit, you need to buy some.  Problem is, I don't know if your pregnancy will make this not so easy (since it is a pre-existing condition.)  I have heard of long-term payment plans for health coverage or the costs of having a baby, you might look into those.  But you are really a lot better off if you can find insurance than going thousands and thousands of dollars into debt to pay for a pregnancy out of pocket.  It can get very costly.

It sounds like you intend to keep the baby (as opposed to put it up for adoption -- if you were considering adoption, go to a high-quality adoption agency and find out what is available in terms of getting your medical expenses paid).

Unless you can find an insurance company that will take you when pregnant and are able to pay out of pocket for the coverage, it will probably mean seeking some kind of help from the government (if available).    You could start by contacting a social-services agency in your area.

Also, see a lawyer about what it will take (in terms of proof) to get child support from the baby's father, and be ready to file for that when the baby is born.
