Incomplete Abortion

At 7th week ultrasound taken, no cardiac beat and fetal pole but there was spot bleeding. Immediately injection taken and after 2 weeks all the blood clots were out. How many days the blood clots can be retained in uterus and should I have to go for D & C  or clear uterus by taking pills ? Pl advice.And what is the reason for such an incomplete abortion. What all the tests should I have to go for?
