Inconsolable crying - 2 month old

Inconsolable crying - 2 month old

Hello everyone,

I've posted before, but looks like my DD is not getting better - she cryes every night after taking bath so bad :(, loud and inconsolably, tonight she almost lost her voice. Her so called colik period starts after 5-6 pm, but she doesn't cry all the time - i can sooth her with different kinds of things, but after the bath - it's something weird. Even during those colik hours she may start crying without any reason - just looking at the ceiling, counting leaves and suddenly BUM!
Any suggestions?????

Patience, patience, and more patience. It is rough to have a colicky baby, but patience is the key.

Hyland makes a product called Colic Tablets, I think they helped a little, but they were not a cure-all.

I also found holding baby across my forearm, so the abdomen received some of the pressure, helped a bit.

Colic can last for what seems to be a very long time, but it does pass. Enjoy the quiet times and forgive the not-so-quiet times.

They did some testing on the tummy gas drops like Mylicon versus infant probiotics (based on the live cultures that are used in yogurt) and probiotics came out as having better results.  Given that a lot of products for colic seem to get that sort of "they helped a little" review, it's worth trying the one that gets a better review.  I got mine at the health-food oriented grocery store.

Question:  does this type of crying also occur if she DOESNT take a bath?

Yes, now it's worse! Tonight shew as crying from 7pm with really short breaks, and then after bath. She couldn't even eat. I'm getting so upset that ready to cry myself, because i can not help it! Maybe something herting her? How do i know? She may look at the picture on the wall and suddenly start screaming! No matter how i hold her. She cryes with tears! I would never make her cry like that! Why is she doing it to herself? I am afraid that she may hert herself with this cry. I noticed today her fontanelle pulsating and now i'm worring twice more :(

So the crying is worse after the bath?  It might just be a coincidence but why not give her a bath at a different time of the day to see if she cries the same way after that?  This way you could find out if something about having the bath is upsetting her - for instance, a soap you are using might bother her.

I suspect though that she is going through a colicy period - sometimes babys go though a few hours a night where the cry for no "obvious" reason and there isnt much you can do to console them.  My baby went through this from about 6 weeks to 3 months and it usually happened between 6-9 pm.

Its very frustrated and upsetting when your baby does this and there is nothing you can do that seems to help - I understand how you are feeling.

If this is really worrying you, you might want to bring this up with her doctor.

When did this all start?  Is she ok during the rest of the day?  Any changes with feeding, temperature (in your house), etc. that you can think of that happened recently?

You have an evening fusser.  Jayden was this way and so are many babies.  They think perhaps it's gas or overstimulation from the day.  Once 3 months hits, this should all be subsided.  Try carrying her during these hours.  I agree, try the bath at a different time.  Maybe whatever you are using to bathe her is irritating to her skin.  Good luck, it seems like it will last forever but it doesn't.

my ped said that many cases of "colic" are actually the baby being overstimulated. they take in so much that by the end of the day there's a sensory overload. perhaps this is contributing to the problem?
I agree- eliminated the evening bath. She doesn't need a bath everyday anyways- last winter DD was an infant and received a bath every 2-3 days.  we never did it in the evening. Have you tried a quieter, darker setting? perhaps that may help. can't hurt to try... i'm so sorry you are going through this. i can't imagine how upsetting it must be.

Thank you thank you All! I was just thinking about changing bath time, and here you all telling me to try! I will. She loves the bath, and i use it as calming minutes for her, not because she needs cleaning. I'll use all my imagination to trick her :)
