Increasing HCG levels, but u/s not matching gestational age

I would really value anyone's advice pertaining to my situation.  The first date of my last period was Dec. 15/04.  I then had a preg. test from my doctor on Jan. 25th to confirm my pregnancy.  HCG was 275.  My next test was on Jan. 31st with an HCG of 3400.  I then had an HCG done Feb. 7th which was at 13,243 .  I also had an ultrasound on the 7th which only showed a sac and yolk.  The radiologist said that they were estimating that I may only be 4 weeks along, but may be too early to tell.  I have to go back for another ultrasound in 2 weeks.  My doctor thinks we may have messed up on dates.  I am sure of the date of last period.  He said that the data isn

Well I was going to say that you may have ovulated later than you thought........but you said dh was out of town........so that leaves me to think that since the sperm can live a number of days, inside the body, that this is what has happened........just because dh left on a Monday doesn't mean that you couldn't have gotten pregnant on Wednesday or Thursday......the sperm could have been sitting there waiting for the egg to be released.....
Dh and I think that is what happened with us as well........we were like 4 states apart and just visiting with each other when we could.......my dates didn't match the time when we were actually "together" but I know there is no doubt as to who the father is......Hopefully your next ultra sound will show a heartbeat. Sometimes dates can be off but the early u/s are usually very accurate.
Best of luck,
Vikki

Thank you so much for your comment.  It makes sense and I pray that is the case.  I hope we'll be able to see a fetus and heartbeat on the ultrasound next 2 weeks.  I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks for the reassurance on this.  It's so comforting to know that my case isn't the "exception to the rule".  I think I'm panicking because of my first miscarriage.  My doctor isn't giving me much assurance either, because he tells me at every visit to make sure I go down to emergency if I start bleeding heavily.  I feel like he's expecting it to happen.  Thanks everyone for being out there for people like me.  Take care.

Thank you for the link.  I'll definately look into this and I'm sure it will help me get through this.  I hope you're right, that I'm just too early to tell.  I don't think I can handle another miscarriage.  Thanks again.////June

Visit this web-site for some really good info that will help you along while you go through this.  You are very early indeed.  Way to early to tell what is going on.  It sounds like everything is okay as far as hcg levels and seeing a yolk sac.  On the web-site, there is some good links in the Research section that will help answer some of your questions.  There are also some great stories of ladies who were told that they were going to miscarry.  They waited to make sure the diagnosis was a sure one before having a D&C, and 25 ladies have found their babies to be alive!  I wish you well with your pregnancy.

I went to the emergency room on feb.my levels were 21,789, they saw no fetalpole and thought it was ectopic, they did surgery and a D&C, well I went back and they said my levels were very high to not have a fetal pole and heartbeat but that they got no fetal tissue following the D&C, my dr. then hooked me up to the u/s well i am still 7 weeks pregnant, I hope you weigh all your options and question your dr.

I just receive a call from my dr a few hours telling the same thing that you went through and I am freaking out. Please let me know how thinks went. The dr. thinks I am only 5 weeks but the HCG levels suggest that I am 8 weeks which matches what they said at the first appointment. I am really scared!!!

Hi I'm in desperate need of some help
I'm 37 years old and Possible expecting my second child. Ive been going back and forth to the doctor for weeks now.
emotional I'm a wreck, I have Increasing Hcg Levels but no fetal pole. 2 us comfirmed this
I'm positive that my last menstrual  was 6/22/08 which would make me around 10wks. the us report stated that
I should only be 6wks I am positive of my last menstrual date. I don't know whether to be happy or expect the worse.
The us tech mentioned something about an blighted ovum ,if that's the case why do I have still increasing hcg levels.
can any one shine a little light on my situation.
