Increasing Milk Supply

by girlybuff, Mar 21, 2007 12:00AM
Hi all.  I want to share with you fellow breast feeding moms out there how to keep your milk supply up, if interested.
You can take 2 natural herbs, which are perfectly safe for both you and your baby.
They are Brewer's Yeast and Fenugrrek.
I take 1 500 mg capsule of Fenugreek a day and you can take anywhere between 4 and 12 tablets of Brewer's Yeast, also 500 mg a day along with your pre-natal vitamins.
you can find them either online or at any health food store and they work so well I only take it a few times a week otherwise I would have to nurse and pump every hour to relieve my breasts.
Good luck!!

Question?  What is the best breast pump to buy?  I am planning on breastfeeding but need to go back to work after four weeks.  I know I need to get my baby used to bottle to.  Just want to buy a good one.

Hi.  I invested in a hospital grade pump.  The Medela Pump In Style.  It's really good and easy to use and carry, especially for work.  Of course, nothing will ever be as strong and productive as your baby themself but hospital grade pumps are pretty close to it.
I don't know what your financial situation is but it's about 300 bucks.  You can also contact La Leche League and find a person in your area who rents them.
I plan on having more children and breast feeding all of them so it made more economical sense to actually purchase it but if you're planing on pumping only for a short period of time, like a few months, maybe renting would be good for you.
Isn't breast feeding the most wonderful thing ever???

Medela pump in style is awesome.  I had one for my ds, I passed it on so now I will have to buy another one.

To: Pumping while working offsite
I take Fenugreek as well and I have been able to keep my supply after a drop when I returned to work.  I take about 6-8 tablets a day.
Medela Pump in Style is what I have and I can't live without it.
My question is I have a offsite meeting today which is about an hour away, I need to leave my office at 12:30 and the meeting won't be over until 4:30 or 5:00.  What do you suggest me to do?  Pump in the car when my meeting is over?  In the parking lot?

by girlybuff, Mar 21, 2007 12:00AM
Can you excuse yourself to use the bathroom or another office to pump before you leave?
I guess if you have to the car is ok but I would rather a more private place......
I was just at a deposition the other say and I had to excuse myself to pump.  They weren't happy but I didn't care.  LOL

I doubt it....I am the only woman in the meeting and I wouldn't be comfortable telling my clients that I have to pump....I pumped in the car before but it's at night so nobody could see me.
I guess I will just have to hold on until I gt home.

You do not have to tell them where you are going, just excuse your self to the restroom.  Who cares!!  LOL
Don't make your self wait till you get home!!

There is a thing cold the breastfeeding blanket, I got one form a local store and you just put it over your head and pump. That is what I do and I do have windows in my office which over look a computer lab. try it.

Well, it's too late for me to go buy the blanket.  I will probably just bring a baby blanket and pump in the car after the meeting.  So Instead of pumping every 3 hours, I will have to do a 4-5 hour stretch.  No biggie.
How are you?  Gavin has been eating less milk, I think he is teehting...

To: fenugreek??
I looked at the fenugreek tablets (500mg) in our health shop and it says not to take whilst breastfeeding on the bottle, am I looking at the wrong stuff? The people in the healthfood shop didn't seem to have much knowledge on the subject. Up to now my supply has been great, but I currently have a bad cold and just don't seem to be producing enough milk for Sam.

Mine said not to take while pregnant.  Look at the ingredient and see if it contains Fenugreek only.  I posted on your ? yesterday.  I take Solaray brand, 620 mg/cap, 6-8 pills a day.

Good luck!

Hey lady, I am good. Second week at work, so far so good. Veronika is having hard time with her naps in the office. She will only sleep in the car seat for now and even in the car seat she does not sleep longer the 40 minutes, so I may have to start coming to work earlier and take her for a walk during lunch time. I am a bit tired, but that was predictable! Hubby is trying to help in the evenings, nights and even during the day as much as he can. Luckily we work 5 minutes walking distance, so he comes during lunch time and walks her to sleep. Now, tell me exactly what to look for when i go get the fenugreek? I would like to give it a try since all of you r trying! Does not hurt to have more milk! How's Gavin? What about your mom?

When should one take this Fenugreek?  My baby is due June 26th and I got to go back to work in 4 weeks, but plan to breastfeed like I said above.  I just don't know how the heck to go about the bottle and the breast thing :-)  I guess I should do both but how?

Thanks! I saw my midwife and doula today and asked them about the warning, they said the same as you; so long as it doesn't contain anything else it is okay. The manufacturers put these warnings on to cover themselves, provided it is taken in the recomended quantites it is fine. Thanks again.

Sorry to report but Fenugreek absolutely did NOTHING for me :(
Girlybuff-I looked up info on Brewer's Yeast and it says that one of the side effects is gasiness in babies.  Since my DD already suffers from gas, I don't think I"ll be trying it :(

by ange800, Mar 21, 2007 12:00AM
I went to buy some fenugreek and was told it can make your milk smell funy and breath smell of garlic so the health lady told me she advised blessed thistle and since I have been taking it my dd have been very satisfid and feeds alot quicker its great also I have the odd drink of beer its the brewers yeast in it that helps as well.
