Infant with acid reflux and possible flu, gagging and choking cough

I just recently went back to work last Wednesday and already hit the first illness from daycare.  My older son is almost 4 and began throwing up Friday night with no fever or warning that he did not feel well.  All of the sudden he said his tummy hurt and that was it, he threw up all over the chair in the living room, poor kid.  He was pretty miserable all weekend but began to perk up Sunday.  Sunday afternoon my baby started to gag when I would feed him.  It was a pretty scary thing, he was eating and began to sound like he was choking, would stiffen up and cough so hard he would get pale and began to gag, it sounded like he was trying to throw up and couldn't get it, but the coughing and gaggging got worse and sounded like he was choking.  I would let him take a few sips from his bottle and make sure he had swallowed and a few minutes later it would start.  I took him in yesterday morning (had to miss work, but thankfully they had scheduled extra in case I decided not to come back yet) and they thought he had a viral bug like his brother.  He was at the point where he would not eat for me anymore and had not had a wet diaper from 11 pm that night till the appt at 10 am.  He was dehydrated, but they felt that he had a tummy ache and it was intensified by his acid reflux and the choking /gagging cough was due to him trying to swallow back the acid and he would not eat due to the pain it caused.  Kinda made sense.  WE got him hydrated and he seems to feel better, but is still doing that horrible choking cough, his spell last night lasted over a 1/2 hr and he was out of breath by the time he was done, plus he can't cough anything up.  We are heading back in shortly, but anyone else have this issue, they still think it's his reflux out of control.  My first son actually did gag and choke on vomit his second week back at daycare when he was 11 weeks old.  Had to be taken by ambulance to the er becase he was not responding to CPR.  Scariest thing ever and now this seems oddly similar.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Since you said it happened to your new baby and your older son when he was little I would suggest that you think of ways in which your home is different to that of the daycare. Maybe ask yourself questions like... Were there other sick kids there at the time?  Do they have any pets?  What do they use for cleaning products (this is a big one that many people don't think about) versus what you use.  Air quality?  Is it a new home?  I know that as we are thinking of building we have been told by alot of people including my dad who builds homes about problems with illness and toxicity problems in new homes because of chemicals that they now use in a lot of building materials.  It is probably none of these but it may help jog up some thoughts of what could be going on.  Sorry if I sound like a dork!!!  LOL!

Thanks gals, the home is really clean, my first son gagged on spit up and aspirated it into his lungs, went downhill from there.  He was laying on his back which actually made it worse.  He had issues with his lungs already from aspirating amniotic fluid at birth.  After that we kept him with his head elevated.  This one we kept elevated from the start.  Daycare is really clean, no pets, etc.  I think since school just got out there's a few bigger ones there and some had runny noses, daycare provider thought it was allergies.  We had a rough day with tests and x-rays.  He is on Prevacid for acid reflux, but they discovered it is not enough today when they did the Barium x-ray.  He also tested positive for RSV today and his oxygen level did dip to 89 a few times, but came up a little.  They sent us home for the time being but said it will get worse before it gets better, we may still end up at the hospital, but I'm nebbing him and they also added Reglan twice daily with the Prevacid to help the reflux.  Fingers crossed that we get better quickly.  I now have to take the rest of the week off, which I want to be home anyway, but sucks to have to call in after being back at work for only 3 days.  They have been very understanding.  DH is stressed that I am, out of paid sick days and vacation since they had to go towards maternity leave...thanks again.
