Infertility

Last year I had an ectopic and had my part of my right tube removed.  I am seeing a fertility specialist now to try again.  I have a 15 yr old and had trouble getting pregnant a 2d time.  My problem is that I have utering fibroids and the doctor wants to do a laproscopy(?) first.  I was dead set against it and instead decided to try super ovulation using the shots.  I was afraid that ifI had the procedure done my chances for pregnancy would then be 0.  Am I waisting my time or is it still possible to get pregnant and carry a baby to term despite the fibroids?  The OBGYN/fertility specialist thinks I am waisting my time.  I am now 38 1/2 and already know that I don't want anymore once I turn 40 so time was a factor in my decision.  I am now very upset because I actually wanted at least 4 kids and during during all the years we were trying noone even mentioned the clomid or any other alternative to us.
