Is 2 1/2 weeks of brown spotting considered a cycle?

by Shevawn Simmons, Aug 29, 2003 12:00AM
In May 2003 I miscarried.  I believe I was 8 weeks, had not done ultrasound due to just finding out I was pregnant a week before.  The doctor did do an ultrasound to see if I was miscarrying and confirmed I was.  He did not do a d&c because he said there was only a sac and no tissue in the sac and to let the miscarriage happen without d&c.  I bleed for 6 weeks like he told me I would.  A week after I stopped bleeding I had a normal cycle.  I waited for my cycle in July, but it never happened.  Instead, a week after my cycle was suppose to come I began spotting.  I spotted (brown) for 2 1/2 weeks.  I spoke with a nurse practitioner from my dr.'s office and she said if I was not pregnant and my cycle did not come at the end of August/beginning of September to call.  The pregnancy test came out negative (took it 2 weeks ago) and I am still waiting for my cycle.  What do you think?

Hiya,i`m not really sure if you are pg.,sometimes cycles go crazy for alittle while after a m/c.But if you want to be pg. i`ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get the BFP you want.I too had some brown spotting before i found out,but it only lasted 3 days. But yours might be that too, just having more to flush out, along with implantion, since you just had a m/c recently. Are you regular?Alittle info about your cycles might be more helpful.Well,if AF don`t come around again, see the Dr. i bet you`ll get that BFP you want.Just give it some more time,God will bless you!

I miscarried in May 2003 as well.  It was a natural miscarriage and it took weeks for my hcg levels to come down but they finally did.  About six weeks after the m/c I got a period that was very different from any other I have ever had. I had bad cramping at times and moderate bleeding.  It went on for close to three weeks so my doctor put me on progesterone hoping that would stop my period and then when I went off of the progesterone have a more normal period.  Well I took the progesterone for two weeks and have now been off of it for two and a half weeks with no sign of period. I am hoping my body will just work it out on its own.  But it is very frusterating.  ANyway, I have a appointment with my ob/gyn in two weeks so I am just going to wait until that point and talk to her then.  Hopefully I will start my period before then.  ANyway, that was my experience since m/c.  How long did you bleed during the m/c?  Have you always had a normal cycle?  I know I am not answering your questions directly but I just wanted to share my experience as it sounds similar to yours.
Take care

Thank you for your comments.  about my cycle, it has not been regular for a few years now.  I have been off and on birth control pills ( not to regulate but to not get pegnant)for 5 years.  The last time I took b.c. was April 2002 to October 2002 and became pregnant in April 2003.  We are ttc but, it's hard when I have no idea when my cyccle is coming.  I did take another test just to make sure I was not pregnant and I am not. We will see what happens this month with my cycle.  I decided to give my body until the end of September, and if my cycle doesn't come I will go to the dr.  Thanks again for your comments!
