Is 5 weeks too early to pick up sac on ultrsound?

I have been today for a transvaginal scan and thought I was 6 weeks pregnant. My HCG level is 698 which is normal for 5 weeks pregnant but they couldn't see a sac or anything and they are not 2 worried about ectopic as they can't see anything in that area. It is possible due to conception that I could have my dates mixed up. However, would you expect to see something at this early stage? All advise grateful xxx
