Is Insect repellant safe when you are pregnant?

Is Insect repellant safe when you are pregnant?

I remember reading a posting that it was NOT safe for pregnant women to use "Off" bug spray, or any insect repellant which contains DEET.  Is this true or just a rumor?  Since there are many insects out in the summertime, I am trying to find a good option.  Thank you very much!

You can spray it onto your clothing but it is not to go directly onto your skin.

I think as long as there is NO DEET in it you should be ok.

You are only supposed to use the kind with no deet I believe they make kids bug spray with out any deet in it.

Good question, I am going camping in a few weeks and was wondering this myself. If we aren't allowed to use the kind with DEET, is there a list anyone knows of repelants that do not contain DEET?

Mosquitos love me and there seems to be nothing I can do.  Some stuff I've learned over the years...Some mosquitos are attracted to bad breath, some mosquitos are attracted to foot odor, mosquitos don't like garlic in the blood stream, mosquitos are attracted to sweat.  There are different netted outfits you can wear when you sleep. There are incense like sticks you can leave burning outside of your tent.  There are mosquito buttons you can wear.

Actually, they changed the recommendations once West Nile hit the US. If you live in an area that west nile is present, they do recommend using a product with deet as it is more effective than any other product, even babies are allowed to use it now. The key is finding the lower concentrations. OFF! makes several different formulas.

Also, there is an all natural citronella spray out there I used when I live in TX. It wasn't 100% effective, required reapplication constantly, but it was before they changed their recommendations on DEET.

Consult your doc about anything topical, even Skin So Soft. I personally can't use it, not only does it make me nauseated, it makes me break out as well.
