Is MRI safe at 19 weeks of pregnancy

I have been having some back pain for some weeks now. Am olny 19 weeks and I look like am 36 weeks, my stomach is huge. My back pain has been increasing and it seems like the bigger my tommy the worse the pain. My OBGY is suggesting an MRI. Is MRI safe? should we wait further down the road before performing an MRI? Does it even worth it ? Although am in pain but I think it will be over after the baby is here. How safe is MRI?

I've seen some ladies have MRIs in pregnancy.  If your doctor feels its necessary, then he would be the one to talk to about the risks and benefits.
