They say walkers are not good for baby's....the idea that they can tip over or if there are stairs and not watched closely enough they can fall down those and get hurt badly....also they may be more mobile and get into even more trouble...I would say if you are going to get something to put him in then a jumper saucer--it is stable-he will have activites but be more secure in one place.

I am not a fan of walkers, I actually think it inhibits walking because it doesn't promote a natural posture. My boys used exersaucers from 3 mos until 6 or 7 mos and they were all early walkers. The saucers helped them master standing and gave my arms and lap a break from holding bouncy babies : )

Yep - how about gates - can they gate him in the middle of the living room?  or an area where there is not a ton of ****

walkers are BAND from canada..You cannot buy them anywhere and if you have one and your child gets hurt and you need to go to the emerg, you will get charged and loose your child..pretty scary..too many things happened with them..id stay away from them

I NEVER put DD in a walker.  I let her crawl everywhere and yes, i had to watch her closely for her not to get into trouble but I wasn't going to put my DD into something that can cause future spine problems.  Her back muscles are pretty strong and I attribute it to letting nature take it's course.  Pretty soon Ryan will be walking.  This is where ALL the fun begins :)

I don't know - I used a walker for my DD and she still walked at her first bday....which is maybe late for some...but perfect for us.

I am using one for Jake as well but only downstairs.  He has an exersaucer for upstairs.

Oh - if your baby is 9 mos old, then I would not use one.

My babies were only in it from 4 mos - 8mos.
Jake is 6mos old and he is already almost to mature for it.

walker keeps the baby from walking . they cant see their feet to learn. so their walking may delay

Kris, the sets you are referring to are a great idea. One of the big toys companies, either Fisher Price or Playskool has a similar concept but with activities on most of the panels.

I highly recommend the rainforest jumperoo. I used it with my 10 month old from when he was 3 months. It was a god send!!

I personally had up until recently the old type of walkers. I have stairs, but I firmly believe in using baby gates at all times in my house b/c of the stairs. I even gate my 1 older dog in the foyer area so she doesn't get annoyed at the kids. But anyways, I used it with DC1 at 4 months old, and she started walking on her own at 10 1/2 months. With DC2 he started walking at 12 months. My DC3 didn't use it too much, just for when I would take a shower. He mainly lived in the jumperoo. Even after he started crawling at 7 months he still enjoyed going in the jumperoo. You can get one on sale at Target for $59.99. They're normally 71/79.99.

Where I was going with the walkers is that I personally never had a problem with them, however I know people were using them without putting up baby gates or childproofing their house.
