Is is Post Partum Deppression?

Is is Post Partum Deppression?

I just had a baby girl on October 24th. She was 5 pounds 13 oz. Although she was a little early everything went well and we ended up spending a few days in the hospital just to make sure. Now that I have been home for a while I thought everything would go fine. After a few days post partum I had the baby blues for only two days where I cried my eyes out every night for no reason but it went away. Now I am at a lack of emotion. It isn't that I am sad as I dont cry it is more like I don't feel anything. I smile or laugh but there really isn't anything behind it. Is this normal? My husbands always asking me if everything is ok but I don't have anything to tell him. All I can say is that I feel like something is missing but don't know what it is to fix. I love our daughter very much but I just feel so disconnected. I don't know if it would be deppression because I have had deppression before and it never felt like this. Plus even though I may feel like laying down and hibernating forever I just don't have the time. Nor would I deprive a 3week old or my four year old. Any ideas?

The baby blues last up through 6 weeks or so and having a baby is very stressful on your body and emotions. It is something worth mentioning to your doctor, perhaps you should put a call in Monday.

I realize when I was a few months PP and i was still feeling off that it was beyond the baby blues and sought help. Mine also didn't present as crying or the like, but rather agitation and the inability to cope with daily stressors. Once i started treatment I felt like a new woman!

I had a baby in August and I know exactly what you are talking about.  I think a lot of it is lack of sleep and proper rest.  You feel like a zombie just going through the motions somedays. We have many seasons we go through in life and with a new baby this is one of them.  Don't beat yourself up, you are normal and are probably just over tired.   If you see that you start having problems with wanting to live or don't want to take care of your children....then you have a problem and need to seek help.  Get sleep when you can and know this season will soon pass.
